Headshear goes back about ten years to when Gwynn Adams started playing with Deirdre Lynds. He found her to be an incredible guitar player/composer and on top of that they just have a certain chemistry. He had played with a lot of other guitarists and always found it difficult to blend styles and have similar instincts.
Knowing that they wanted to play challenging instrumental music that is more akin to classical chamber music than say jazz fusion, with endless turns soloing ad nauseum, they perservered for 8 years looking for the right musicians. Lo and behold, Van Spragins showed up underneath their very nose. He's been with Headshear for a little over 3 years.
Headshear started gigging in late 2001, making our debut at the Progressive Projections festival in San Francisco. From that point until March 2004, Matthew Guggemos was the esteemed kit player. Headshear also had the good fortune of having Igor Abuladze and Wally Scharold fill the role of 3rd guitarist.
Currently, Hudson Bunce holds down the grooves on the drums and has been with the group for the last 10 months.
