Album Notes

What is Hearts Fail?

Hearts Fail is the culmination of the post-punk movement blended perfectly with the melodic and moody sounds of the cold wave genre. One listen will evoke images of the 80s, but Hearts Fail is still very relevant in todays music scene.

Finding inspiration from older bands such as: the Chameleons UK, the Cure, Joy Division, the Church, the Smiths; Hearts Fail manages to take the best of the old alt-rock scene and mix it with newer influences like: A Perfect Circle, V.A.S.T., NIN, Interpol, the Smashing Pumpkins and Radiohead.

So, why the name?

The name "Hearts Fail" is somewhat of a reality check for us. The nature of people is to constantly fail in the overall flow of life and mankind. But, our hope lies in what happens next after the failure. You can choose to give up the ghost and quit or you can get up and strive against your nature to really do something great. Everyday we choose the latter and this band is the manifestation of that choice.

Music is what we love and live for. Welcome to Hearts Fail.

Background:
The breakup of two rival bands in the Texas underground scene led to the birth of Hearts Fail in early 2003. Longtime acquaintances in San Antonio's Goth subculture, Edward Wagner (The Dead Cadets) and Michael Lampe (The Scarlet Moon Empire) decided to try their hand at writing music together after both of their own bands dissolved. Roberto Medina, a friend and fan of The Dead Cadets, was soon added to the band along with Lampe's former bandmates, Ruben Salazar and Clint Kingsbery. Since its debut in July 2003, Hearts Fail has accomplished an incredible amount in a relatively short period of time. Besides headlining festivals, being included on nationally-released compilation albums, and receiving radio airplay, Hearts Fail released its first album, The Empty Promise in the summer of 2004.
