Heather Dale cheerfully disregards the stereotypical limits for both folk singer-songwriters and Celtic balladeers. Tapping into the continuing evolution of Celtic peoples worldwide, this Canadian recording artist offers a new type of Celtic music for the 21st century: a playful, passionate blend of tradition and innovation. Her holiday CD This Endris Night (an old term which means 'the other night') contains 12 of Heather's inventive arrangements of Medieval and Renaissance holiday songs. These lively renditions feature her versatility as both a vocalist and an instrumental performer; she performs everything on the album, including all vocals (in five languages), tin whistle, Irish and Middle Eastern percussion, and Medieval-style folk instruments such as the bowed psaltery and hammered dulcimer.

Inspired by her love of history, Heather set out to catch the holiday spirit from over 500 years ago. The CD mixes well-known carols (such as Good King Wenceslas, The Holly and the Ivy) with songs from even older times (Huron Carol, Veni Veni Emmanuel). "I wanted to express the strength of this common celebration," she explains. "The Midwinter season has always brought people together, no matter the details of their faith." This album is a truly unique and joyful exploration of seasonal music.

    Sweet modern arrangements of ancient Chrismas carols in several languages....French, German, Latin, even North American Native Huron....how does Dale do it? How does she succeed in playing all the instruments, recording and producing the album herself? Amazing...this album is definately a good cultural and sohpisticated choice for the holidays. All of the tracks are noteworthy, but of special note are "Ave Maria", "Coventry Carol", "Huron Carol", "Veni Veni Emmanuel", and the folksy/funky "Holly and the Ivy". Dale's voice is superb, and highly appropriate for the subject matter of these ancient spiritual tunes. Highly reccomended.

    Heather Dale's inventive arrangements and use of native languages such as French, Latin, and Native American intermixed with English verses make this recording a fresh and spirited medium to rouse the holiday spirit. It conjures up images of being in the Great Hall of an ancient castle with the Winter raging outside, but inside around the warmth of the hearth-fire is dancing, singing, feasting and holiday revelry. Her unique blend of Renaissance, Celtic, folk and pagan sounds form a single recording that will appeal to all who enjoy those individual styles.
