Album Notes

As a teenager growing up in Connecticut, singer/songwriter Heather Fay vowed that one day she would compile the world’s most perfect mix tape - A mix tape that would act as the quintessential soundtrack to her life.

Try as she might the mix was never right - it seemed as if a song or two were always missing. One day, after many failed attempts, Heather Fay came face to face with the Alvarez guitar sitting in the corner of her Boston University apartment. She had bought it on a whim (mostly because it looked cool) but now she knew it was time to pick up that guitar and start writing those missing songs.

And so, her songwriting journey began. Heather wrote honest songs about her highs and lows over the years. Her years as a film major in college, her move out West to Los Angeles where she worked for years at Warner Bros and her frustration at never getting her big break as a film Director. She wrote songs about her loves, losses and hopes of finding the man of her dreams, her decision to move back home to Connecticut and most profoundly the birth of her daughter.

Along the way, Heather decided to temporarily abandon her dreams of making that perfect mix tape. Instead, she decided to take some of the songs she had written and create the first installment of her life’s soundtrack. These compiled songs became her debut album "Scrape Knee’d Girl" – a cozy, warm and groovy collection of songs she recorded onto analog tape at Dirt Floor Studio, a little recording studio in the sleepy woods of the Connecticut countryside.

Not fitting into an either/or category, Heather has opted to coin her genre "Alt/Retro". "Scrape Knee’d Girl" is a little alternative yet retro….an album that many years ago could have sat comfortably on the shelf between Carly Simon and Carole King....yet still has a fresh sound that is full of new discoveries.

Currently, Heather Fay is busy at work writing her next installment of songs and still one day hopes to tackle that perfect mix tape…

One of the finest collections of songs by a new artist that i've heard in a long time. Each song has it's own identity and you can hear in her voice that Heather has lived through each one. It's one of my favorite records this year,I truly love it and play it almost every morning on my way to work! Wholly Satisfying Folky, Blues-Tinged Pop

Years ago I found a demo by Heather Fay with two evocative songs that made me yearn for more -- until now: Fay expands her sound with a full band and great range of folky, blues-tinged pop, perfectly embodied in opener "5:15". "Don't Cry" has been fleshed out but loses none of the raw emotion; and "Dukes Up" has a fiery punch to it; but Fay wisely abandons the band for plaintive gem "Better." The best surprises: breezy, Eagles-like "Last Time' and wistful "California Days." I couldn't be happier for having waited this long.

This album is a "breath of fresh air" - the words are beautifully set to the music. I love the way all of the songs and words fit so well together. I am not a musician but this album is so listenable - that I play it over and over - great job! Heather is going places in the music world!
