Album Notes

With the release of her debut CD Golden, Heather Stevenson has shown herself to be a musical force not to be missed. She plays both piano and guitar but her most apparent gift is her voice, both fragile and strong at once. Her songs are deeply personal and introspective. Her self-produced CD contains ten original songs including The Chosen One about Buffy the Vampire Slayer, featuring the vocals of Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket.

Heather is based in Santa Barbara, and has been performing since 1995. She began by playing cover songs in a duo called Cat-n-Heat, performing in small clubs around Santa Barbara for about two years before beginning to write her own songs. Since that time she's participated in several Songwriters Performance Workshops run by Jimmy Messina, and has played in Santa Barbara at such venues as Soho Nightclub, Cold Spring Tavern, Dargan's Irish Pub, Rocks, El Presidio Chapel, Muddy Waters, Victoria Hall, Center Stage Theatre, and the Coach House. Heather's songs are being played on AOL Radio, radio@netscape, and Spinner.com. Two of her songs (Home and Fly) were featured on Sony Digital Entertainment's broadband series Rachel's Room (www.spe.sony.com/screenblast/rachelsroom).

Heather has shared the stage with acclaimed independent artists such as Michelle Malone, Erin McKeown, Allette Brooks, Pamela Means, Lorna Hunt, Antara & Delilah, Libby Kirkpatrick, Adrianne, Marca Cassity, and Sally Taylor. She's performed at a number of community events including the AIDS Walk, Creek Week, I Madonnari, Environmental Defense Center TGIF, Pride at the Beach, and the County Fair.

In addition to recording her own album, Heather has provided vocal harmonies on recordings for Antara & Delilah, Julia Baucke, and Michael Frey. She has worked with producers Robinson Eikenberry, Jack Lee, and Kevin McCormick (Keb Mo's producer). In January 2002, one of her songs was chosen to be included in a compilation CD put out by acclaimed independent musician Michelle Malone and SBS Records. She also contributed a vocal to "Cabaret for Choice," a CD benefiting Planned Parenthood.

Beautiful Voice....Must Have CD!!!

I stumbled on the song Begin that was on a compilation CD of women singer-songwriters. I couldn't get it out of my head. I had to buy the whole CD to check out this amazing artist so I went to my favorite site to buy CDs (CD Baby of course) and bought the Heather Stevenson Golden CD. I was not disappointed in the least. Heather has a beautiful voice, almost angelic. The opening title track is filled with touching lyrics and sung from the heart. Look Away is another great ballad. Long Way Out and The Rope are reminiscent of the vocal harmonies and style of that of Jonatha Brooke and The Story but Heather is truly her own artist. Interestingly, the songs get stronger and stronger towards the end of the CD. Fly and Black And White are two of my favorites. Fans of beautiful soprano voices will be amazed. The CD ends with the masterpiece Begin which is a stylishly catchy upbeat song both musically and lyrically. I highly recommend this CD. Thanks Heather for sharing your wonderful talents with us. I look forward to more great music from you in the future!

I really like Heather's music a lot. She has a beautiful, soft voice and the songs are unexpected and well-written. This is music that grows on you and you are likely to get addicted after a while. I am glad, that I could add "Golden" to my CD-collection.
