Album Notes
Heather W. Reichgott has collected pieces from three of America's finest well-known contemporary composers and three emerging new composers from three countries and performed them with brio on a CD of energetic and lyrical piano music.

Reel: Homage to Henry Cowell by Lou Harrison -- This dance bubbles over with high-energy folk dance rhythms... and in honor of Harrison's teacher Henry Cowell, it calls for rapid clusters played with the palms, forearms and elbow!

Secret & Glass Gardens by Jennifer Higdon -- Written for the Van Cliburn competition, this lyrical and technically challenging piece creates a rich atmosphere of sparkling tone colors.

selections from Twenty-Four Preludes by Steven O'Brien -- From a set of preludes in every major and minor key, these pieces in deceptively simple style evoke strong emotions of yearning, anger and serenity.

Op. 21 no. 2 by Pavel Konyukhov -- A piece rigorously developed from one five-note idea to create a highly imaginative journey through many moods.

selections from Problems for Piano by Jake Bellissimo -- Expressive and confrontational music that explores persistent "problems" in life, these pieces are reminiscent of Shostakovich's piano music.

Semplice and Sky of the Eternal by Gwyneth Walker -- Two peaceful meditations by a modern-day master of sacred music.

All pieces performed by Heather W. Reichgott
Recorded and mastered at Northfire Recording Studio in Amherst, MA
