I would say half of the songs on this very short cd (spacing between tracks actually pushed it over the 30 min. mark)are very good. They'd be great in anyones cabaret and they're performed quite well. I suspect he's much more fun to see in person, however, as the other songs had more of a this-is-really-better-if-you-can-see-my-face feel to them. Highlights are 'Terrible Homosexual', 'Lowering My Standards', 'A Blessed Thing' and 'In Heaven, They Sing Nothing But Showtunes'. I would recommend this for cabaret enthusiasts.

Mr. Coris wrote the lyrics to these songs as well as performing them. Besides his obvious skills and crystal clear voice, his understanding of musical theatre style and syntax is tremendous. "Not Me" is reminicent of an era when the word "parody" still had some class to it; when cabaret humor and "special material" was sly and intelligent. I saw the show in New York - my first thought was that would love to see it dressed up and staged in another venue. Hector is someone - as a lyricist and as a performer - that disputes the phrase "they don't make 'em like that anymore." Evidently, they do.
