Album Notes

"If It Does" was released in December of 2005.  These songs were the first I'd ever written.  They were my punk rock, my anti-commercial effort.  This album is not pop music.

This is an album that I am proud of, because it is not for everyone. To be new in the music business today kind of feels like showing up at the end of a party, after the cops have shut it down and the host is passed out. The only reason to show up at all is that you feel at home out back by the pool. I made this album for me, with the assumption that I would never make another one. I designed it to be listened to from start to finish, just because singles seemed to be the only thing that would make money in the future. I wanted to make one old-fashioned "album" before it was too late. (I had such an apocalyptic view of everything.)

Halfway through this project, I realized there is nothing else on earth that I could do for fourteen hours a day.  You can hear my learning curve.  It made me decide to pursue an education in recording and production, and to rethink my entire approach to songwriting.  I no longer play any of these songs, but they are here for those that want them. For you that were in school with me and heard the songs in the hallways while I was skipping class to write them.  Please check out my new album, "One Day E.P.," to hear where I'm at today.

Thanks for listening,

Logan Heftel

REVIEWS

Logan has something to say and the story is in both the music and the lyrics.
author: T.W. Day
This first CD has an experienced, older-than-the-artist-has-lived feel. Logan's complicated compositions make this a surprisingly interesting record. Most of the arrangements are wrapped around acoustic instruments, with Logan’s big, relaxed vocals holding the center stage. The basic band is acoustic guitar, electric bass, harmonica, and drums; occasionally spiced by a an R&B or marching band horn section. The sound of the record is a little erratic, in the way that many Van Morrison mixes seem slightly off-kilter. The thirteen tunes swing from traditional folk to jazz influenced to straight-forward and slightly funky pop. Logan’s sense of humor is prominent in both the lyrics and the instrumental arrangements (as in the end of “What a Way to Be”). The general feel is “easy listening,” but that sells the whole short (nowhere better illustrated than by the opening “Tell to All”). There is more to this than background noise, Logan has something to say and the story is in both the music and the lyrics. I expect to hear more from this voice.

Logan Heftel is a lyrical genius "All Ages" (9-109) Performer...
author: Penny Nelson
The tunes on "If It Does" are reminiscent of a variety of performers that many Baby Boomers grew up with.. among others James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver, and, of course, with his harmonicas... Bob Dylan. To his wonderful solo performance vocals, Logan has added a myriad of auditory treats: Voice tracking, jazz musicians, female backup singers, and unique instruments and rhythms. You'll find yourself singing along in short order while, at the same time, imagining in your mind, the portraits that Logan paints with his provocative lyrics. This is a collector "First Album" of a someday legendary performer that no one should be without! (They make great Christmas gifts!)
