Album Notes

Producer's Notes

It is believed by many (myself included), that given ample time and financial resources, one could take a ruptured goose into a state-of-the-art recording studio and come out with tomorrow's next pop singing sensation. That is, of course, if the fowl in question is under the age of eighteen, can dance and has a reasonably cute tail-feather. Honk!
It wasn't long after meeting Helen Slater that I knew the kind of album I wanted to make on her. My only question: would the artist agree? Happily (and bravely) she did. This record (yes, I still call them that) is recorded completely "live in the studio" in Nashville Tennessee. Meaning, everyone, including Helen, played together, at the same time, in the same room and, believe it or not, in the same key. Even her vocal was cut right there behind the piano at the moment of tracking. Thus, you will hear pedal noise, You will hear feet stomping. You will hear extemperaneous utterances. You will hear what can only be described as Helen having a litter of kittens behind the piano. Could we have taken it out? Sure. Did we? No. Why? Because who cares. We're making music here, not shoes. Consequently what you get to experience is a truly gifted singer-songwriter surrounded by somne of the finest musicians in the world-organically, spontaneously and authentically. No tricks.

I'm very proud to have played a small part in the making of this album. It has been one of the most rewarding an creative experience of my career. I hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed making.

seldom does an album come wherein all of the songs are excellent. its almost always the case that when you buy an album, its only a couple of songs that would take your fancy, and you end up just listening to those songs, and generally disappointed with the album. such is not the case with Helen's One of these Days...all of the songs are excellently put together, very lyrical and it actually makes you stop what you do all together just so not to miss any of the words in the beautifully-crafted songs...it's nothing short of magical.....voice, the songs, the accompaniment.....thanks Ms. Slater for sharing your creations.....

The Voice of an Angel

Helen Slater has a beautiful voice. "Greenland", "Shoes", "Touch and Go", "One of These Days", and "Get Up" are definitely some of my favorites from this album. I can tell that she put a lot of work into the rhyming and I think it is awesome when most of her songs deal with some type of story or it's a detailed description of something that she writes about. Most of her songs certainly have an emotional feeling of warmth and love that can tenderly touch each of our hearts. Thank you, Mrs. Slater for your songs. They are amazing!
