The Helladelics play roots music, but with roots that stretch across the sea to the traditional music of Greece, as well as forays into Turkey, Armenia, and the Balkans. Drawing influences from these rich and varied regions, the Helladelics discover the hidden blues at the heart of these forms. The result is music that is rhythmically intricate yet remarkably trancelike, re-contextualizing the traditional in a thoroughly modern way. Their repertoire includes dance tunes guaranteed to get you up and moving as well as smoky, hypnotic numbers that will caress your synapses and set your heart and soul wandering through the misty veils of times long past and countries far away.
Featuring Mary Hofer Farris on clarinet, Michele Simon on vocals and hand drums, Gari Hegedus on oud and violin, and Tom Farris on laouto, the members of the Helladelics have spent decades playing traditional music with numerous well known Bay Area bands including Stellamara, the Brass Menazeri, Kitka, Teslim, and Janam.
