Robin Henkel
Robin Henkel twice awarded "Best Blues CD" at the San Diego Music Awards
and opened shows for Dizzy Gillespie, John MaLaughlin, Bonnie Raitt, Dr John and Arlo Guthrie.
He has performed with the San Diego Symphony, Papa John Creach and Big Jay McNealy.
Early in his childhood Robin was intrigued by the sound of the blues. He reminisces "there was a sound that was different from the other folk music I was listening to as a kid." At age 11 Robin attended a performance by Josh White in Seattle. This left a huge impression. Since then he has moulded his own style from listening to the masters of country blues--artists such as Robert Johnson, Fred McDowell, Muddy Waters, Elmore James and others.
Years of playing in a variety of bands has left a rhythmic stamp on his musicianship so that today his solo performance of country blues is an awesome "must see."
Robin says " I am proud and privileged to be able to perform the blues, a music tradition so deep at the root of our culture."
Robin's newest CD release "Awsome Possum" features a variety of acoustic blues pieces. It is his ninth recording release since 1979.

Also featured on Awesome Possum:
Ben Hernandez, gritty, back country harmonicist and vocalist who with his partner Nathan James recently was awarded top honor at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. I joked around with Ben saying that in my opinion, his vocal performance on this recording is so great that Awesome Possum should be a Ben Hernandez CD.

Kellie Rucker has the electric whining gravely harmonica sound down pat. Her tone-heavy harmonica and powerful singing voice have made her a key ingredient in recordings and live shows. Her work can be found on discs by such diverse artists as Coco Montoya, L.A. Guns, and Corey Stevens.

Bill Watson a unique stylist has grown from the primary influences of Sonny Boy Williamson and George Harmonica Smith, into his own distinct style of chording and chromatic single melody line playing.
