ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Watershed features the Henry Hey trio and consists of almost all original compositions.

Henry Hey - piano - has toured and recorded with everyone from Jeff Watts, Alex Sipiagin, Bill Evans, Bill Bruford, Monday Michiru and Till Broenner to Harry Belafonte, PM Dawn, Phil Ramone, Richard Perry, and most recently extended world touring and television appearances as pianist and shared musical director for Rod Stewart.

John Hebert - bass - has worked with world class musicians Paul Bley, Lee Konitz, Andrew Hill, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Liebman, Maria Schneider, Grammy nominated Fred Hersch, John Abercrombie, Greg Osby, New York Voices, Tim Berne, Mat Maneri and many others.

Jochen Rueckert - drums - has performed with artists such as Mark Turner, Marc Copland, Nils Wogram, Ben Monder, Kenny Werner, Dave Liebman, Joachim Kuehn, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chris Potter, John Abercrombie, and more.

"Setting orchestral textures, the movement of inside lines, the ostinato and emphasis on melody as his goals, he's come out on the other end with a cerebrally kinetic set carving out (hey's) place in the panorama of the tradition"

"The pianist's style suggests a sharp awareness of a broad swathe of jazz piano history, including the romaticism of Bill Evans and the percussive innovation of Keith Jarrett, but he is very much his own man, and is clearly carving out his own niche in the hierarchy. . . . his beautifully crafted disc is well worth discovering."

"Hey is a soloist of rare perception and imagination."

"The trio sounds as if it has been playing together for some time, whether this is true or not. There is an instant chemistry that asserts itself from the first note."
