Album Notes

Alva Star frontman John Hermanson's career began as one-half of Storyhill, a duo who has sold over 35,000 CDs to date. Though the group garnered a sizable following of loyal fans and industry notice including accolades in Billboard Magazine, Hermanson and then partner Chris Cunningham decided to pursue separate paths in 1997. Hermanson's path since Storyhill has taken him steadily into the rock world.

This solo album released in the the fall of '98, on which he toed a delicate balance between unadorned acoustic work and atmospheric pop-rock, Hermanson toured extensively, was nominated for five Minnesota Music Awards, including Best Male Vocalist and Best Songwriter, and produced Brenda Weiler's critically acclaimed CD "Fly Me Back."

Amazing CD (About 25 run throughs to understand)

This song..............................is so Minneapolis. I think part of Storyhill resides there and the other half is for the Mountain West.............................. Both parts remain cloying though. Its amazing how artists can seperate themselves for a while and than decide that part of themselves can usher a dynamic dovetail again.

Essential for any fan of Hermanson's work...

This particular album has some serious gems... "Ginny & June" alone makes the record worth purchasing. "80s Party" and "Needle in your Heart" are not far behind. I'd definitely suggest it for those who really enjoy Hermanson's half of Storyhill, which leans toward more upbeat folk-rock (balancing Cunningham's more mellow country-folk). This is an album full of really fun, simple solo tracks. A nice addition to any collection of Minneapolis music.
