Album Notes

A native of east Texas, Hermine Pinson is a poet, fiction writer, and professor at The College of William and Mary. In addition to the cd, Changing the Changes, she is the author of two poetry collections, Ashe and Mama Yetta and Other Poems, both available through Wings Press or Amazon.com.

Hermine Pinson has collaborated on this cd with Pultizer-Prize-winning poet, Yusef Komunyakaa and intermedia poet and memoirist, Estella Conwill Majozo. Music provided by Tomas Doncker and Third Life Band as well as "Danjamowf" on vocals for "changing the change," along with Hermine. The people and places who came together for this event run the gamut from Texas to Louisiana to Virgina toKentucky to California to Brooklyn, New York. We are poets, musicians, dj's, dreamers, sojourners. We hope this cd reflects our vision. We hope you get something out and put something back in it. Sing and say along with us. Come ride! Selah!

This project is only new in its attempt to note a particular sound, sense, and sirit which in some ways corresponds with our times. From Yusef Komunyakaa’s “changing the change” to the final word/snog, “yearn/yarn” ours is a journey, a pilgrimage, if you will, to reconnect inner space to outer space, universe to universe.

This is a vernacular-exchange of the highest order, a tour-de-force de le monde. This sister is burning it up with her voice on THAT chariot, Lawd! Can I get an amen? This raspy, know-good song-collection will clear a space in your life. Amen?! Praises for an invaluable talent...songstress, sister-girl, Ms. Hermine Penson!!!

I know nothing of reviews, but I do know art, music and poetry and this collaboration evokes the best of them all! The serendipity of my (signed) cd acquisition involved a live performance by Sister Hermine and several other storyteller/poets at The Furious Flower poetry event at James Madison University. Her spoken word voice & vocal stylings made such a stirring in my spirit memory that it sent me back across the threshold of time to those ganja-filled crowds at Gil Scott-Heron performances at Howard U. It prompted a time/space shift that made me want to immediately get people on the phone so they could listen along with me! I still must gift my oldest, far-flung friends with this precious "rememory" since we're all trying to change the changes. The only flaw, I felt, was the missing liner lyrics to Marvin's Lament, Paean to Insomnia, and Yearn. I cannot fathom what an influence Yusef Komunyakaa and Estella Conwill Majozo have exerted, but it can only be a valuable grace. What a virtuous piece of creativity this is in all respects! Gleeful props to my 'homey' adolphus maples... I had no idea!! These "poets, musicians, dj's, dreamers & sojourners" have mastered their lessons and their gifts. More! More! And next time, encourage Houston Conwill to kick his cosmogram element. With gratitude & a happy heart... Peace::Blessings
