The old cowboys were natural storytellers. They told stories about the cattle, the horses, the people and the land. They were simple stories good for a tellin' or two but they soon realized if they put those stories to rhyme and rhythm, the other cowboys would listen to them over and over. Cowboy Poetry was born. It was a common man's poetry. Sometimes it was humorous. Sometimes it was serious or sentimental. But it was and still is a unique form of American Literature. Here in are those home spun stories told in the Western tradition of honor, courage and rugged characters.
