ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Howard Fishman’s first Quartet burst on the scene in 1999 with an unprecedented nine-month residency at the Algonquin in New York City, exploring the roots of popular American music with a program of early jazz, pop, blues, hillbilly and light classical songs. The New York Times wrote “The group recombines familiar ingredients to create its own brand of classicism...fine-tuned ensemble music that transcends time and idiom.” This CD, “The Howard Fishman Quartet Vol. 2” is a collection of previously unreleased material left off of their original, eponymous debut.

A New Convert
My motto is “if it not Baroque – don’t fix it” Many of my friends give me grief for being stuck in listening to nothing but Baroque and classical music. I do admit - I do that. When I discovered this CD I found a whole new genre of music – a blend of jazz and swing that is easy to listen too and fun. It made me realize that the world of jazz is as complex and colorful as the world of classical music. Many hours of pleasure will come from this CD and an opening to this new musical world is most appreciated…Thanks to the Howard Fishman Quartet…
