ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Kevin Hiatt(b. 1956)i s a maverick type of composer, guitarist, and musician pursuing on one hand the role of fingerstyle guitar hero/weekend warrior, and on the other hand concert music composer. His most recent release "Strange Ships on a Blue Horizon" is a collection of instrumentals for six, seven, and twelve string guitars, with haunting, introspective vocals as well. In short "Strange Ships" is not just for guitar heads but for music lovers in general. Hiatt collaborates with cello, pedal steel, and other instrumentalists to create a richly orchestrated sound not found on many acoustic guitar cd releases. The title track alone takes fingestyle guitar playing to a new level of imagination!

His musical debt to artists such as Leo Kottke, Michael Hedges, and even Joni Mitchell is evident without being guilty of being derivative. A vist to his website at kevinhiattmusic.com will reveal a wealth of information about his guitar tunings, and a full listing of his concert works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments. His musical works as a concert music composer have been performed worldwide and have been the recipient of many awards and grants
