Morning lie-ins, wistful contemplations, pastel colors, reflective solitude. Oxford (UK) based Hieronymus mixes folk, rock, pop & electronica to produce a fine debut album, with Katherine's voice like a modern day Karen Carpenter without the gushy kitsch.

notes
Hieronymus in its current state formed in January 2000. Although Oxford, England is their home, lead singer Katherine originally hails from a small town in Georgia - claiming she's not really a redneck but strangely always wears scarves. There she went to university in Athens (home to R.E.M., Vigilantes of Love, The B-52's to name but a few) where her love for music took her by the throat and wouldn't let go. After finding herself living and working in Oxford as soon as she graduated, she starting singing in local bands - mostly doing backing vocals for the fun of it. When she applied for a job as a marketing assistant in a failing company (which she didn't get) the interviewer, guitarist and future co-writer Jonathan Chalstrey, was more interested in her singing ability and after hearing a few tunes insisted she become front 'man' of their own band. Adding some fuel to the fire was bass player Paul Parry and that first concoction called 'Moose County' brought Oxford something rare... a combination of pop, non-15-year-old, folk, alt-country twinged rock - in a town besieged by indie screeching guitars. These days with a slightly different line up (ok... just a different drummer), Hieronymus keep their folk and pop roots but try their damnedest to not let 'categories' or 'stereotypes' get in their way - they play whatever they fancy - whether it be Ramones flavoured guitar riffs or fluffy happy Erasure-like piano loops, they keep their songs varied to entertain themselves and others.
Hieronymus are:
Katherine Hieronymus - Vocals
Jonathan Chalstrey - Guitar, Keyboards, programming
Paul Parry - Bass
Mark Narusson - Drums

Nice, Easy Listening
author: ToniPerfect for those long Sunday morning lie-ins, whether it's with the one you love or alone with a book. The deep melodic tones of the singer are fantastically blended with the background music for an amazing sound. Lets hope Hieronymus are around for a long time.
A sublime dash of melodic pop
author: Logo MagazineWith her thick, dulcet tones and considered sass, Katherine is tailor made for FM radio…. A sublime dash of melodic pop that paints Hieronymus as a serious future threat to any contemporary chart topper.
lusciousness
author: Guitar MagazineFor those that love lusciousness of the kind you get from music that’s Carpenters-meets-St.Etienne – with The Sundays droppin’ in for a scone.
The forecast looks promising
author: Peoplesound.com editorial (for previously released LP)A strong, exemplary vocal… authoritatively ruling the waves so that the faintly Cocteaus-ish guitars can but follow… the forecast looks promising... –Peoplesound.com editorial
Type of music is good. Good blend of singing and background
author: James SleethType of music favors my interest and it is as good as any similar music being produced. It is my hope that the group continues to make that kind of music. I will certainly purchase it.
A class act
author: Oxford MailHieronymus has until now been a relatively unknown local treasure. Fortunately for music lovers things are about to change… A class act
