Hieronymus in its current state formed in January 2000. Although Oxford, England is their home, lead singer Katherine originally hails from a small town in Georgia - claiming she's not really a redneck but strangely always wears scarves. There she went to university in Athens (home to R.E.M., Vigilantes of Love, The B-52's to name but a few) where her love for music took her by the throat and wouldn't let go. After finding herself living and working in Oxford as soon as she graduated, she starting singing in local bands - mostly doing backing vocals for the fun of it. When she applied for a job as a marketing assistant in a failing company (which she didn't get) the interviewer, guitarist and future co-writer Jonathan Chalstrey, was more interested in her singing ability and after hearing a few tunes insisted she become front 'man' of their own band. Adding some fuel to the fire was bass player Paul Parry and that first concoction called 'Moose County' brought Oxford something rare... a combination of pop, non-15-year-old, folk, alt-country twinged rock - in a town besieged by indie screeching guitars. These days with a slightly different line up (ok... just a different drummer), Hieronymus keep their folk and pop roots but try their damnedest to not let 'categories' or 'stereotypes' get in their way - they play whatever they fancy - whether it be Ramones flavoured guitar riffs or fluffy happy Erasure-like piano loops, they keep their songs varied to entertain themselves and others.
