notes

On "The Woman that Ended the World," North Mississippi trance blues, a bit of Appalachia and a dash of punkabilly are duct-taped together into a rockin do-it-yourself hill country blues stomp. This sweet racket comes clanging and tumbling from assorted vintage mics, buckets, cans and BBQ lids, drenched in rambunctious slide guitar.

Despite their homemade instruments and novel approach, Hillstomp is no joke. With help from a few of Portland's finest howlers and growlers, Hillstomp has cranked out a raucous and dirty record to follow up their widely-acclaimed debut album "One Word." With increasingly distinctive songwriting and powerful musicianship, they recycle traditional elements into something fresh and exciting. Fortunately they rock too.

"Unlike these two person garage bands that sprung up like mushrooms after a rainstorm, Hillstomp is a two person blues tornado, incorporating a punk energy into a traditional Delta Trance Blues Sound"
-Music Misfits

"It's suprising to remember there are no swamps in Portland."
-West Coast Performer

"In essence, Hillstomp Plays the style that made the White Stripes and The Black Keys undergroudn stars-but with a lot more sincerity and heart."
-Reno Gazette-Journal

Saw these guys in Bend, March 08. Lots of Sound and energy from just two guys. They play the blues the hard way. Liked them so much I'm buying this album. If you get a chance, go see them live. I dare you to stand still. db

This is a great album from a band that may even be better live but are better than most in the studio. If you like this then you must buy After Two But Before Five and get the full effect.

If you love Bukka White, Fred McDowell and Son House you will love this CD. These boys are not "pretending" to play the delta blues..They are the delta blues..rasping repetative slide guitar, great percussion and vocal from deep down in his soul

It started as a morning in the desert and follwed me home in my mind and every time I listen to it I feel like a fresh new day as it is so loaded with energy. I beleive it has some of that old black magic and maybe some of the good kind of Voo Doo as I just can't not "Shake it" and it feels so GOOOD! Donna in the Desert

We bought this based on hearing Hillstomp playing live on the radio. We had never heard of them but we were mesmerized and the cd is great. If you like hard driving Mississippi blues you won't be disappointed!

My friends in the Cascade Blues Society turned me on to Hillstomp so I dropped up here to purchase. They sure were right on and you have to listen to them to really appreciate. They are attracting tons of younger followers. Well worth your while to purchase this or their other CD

Wow, I was rooted to the spot from the first minute when I heard their shows in Belfast sept. 29 / 30 (Low Down Hoedown, Open House Festival). Thought it was only possible to do this on stage BUT no... their CD's have the same atmosphere. Amazing, time to visit the Netherlands !!

You guys are great, and I have both cds. You should be proud that KM Williams is reviewing your cd. He is my favorite blues player right now, solo, and with Trainreck. Getting back to you guys your Hill Country style just makes my day every time I hear it at Lefty's

  • kick ass music

  • Insanley, amazingly cool, from a crazy blues fan

When I heard parole board blues on XM the first time, I thpught it was a "discovered" classic from the '40's. Would y'all mind if I rip off and perform some of yer charts down here in Albany, Georgia? I might just shell out some bucks for a "green bullet" mic for the occasion. I'll be sure to give due props!!!

  • Very Strong Follow - Up to ONE WORD
    author: Peter

This is a great record. No surprise there, though. Hill Stomp is a damn fine band with a cool-ass sound. THat guitarist is in the pocket. I have to say as a whole it is not quite as strong as their debut (one word), but none-the-less a VERY good record. Peace.

  • Brothers in Arms! You guys are great
    author: KM Williams

Man! Looks like Trainreck(The Two piece Boogie Band From Texas) has some soul brothers from the Great Northwest! You Guys sound like what the Whites Stripes and the North Mississippi Allstars should be sounding like! You definitely have that North Mississippi Hill Country Groove with the Punk edge!

  • AMAZING
