HIMIKO BIO
Himiko, an innovative composer, arranger, and keyboardist has produced 3 electropop albums in 2005. They are pop-crossover "Mai", dancy "Mugen", (see quotes on the other page) and J-electronic "Shippo o tsukame". The first 2 were released in 2005, and did great on Canadian college radio stations. "Shippo o tsukame" will be released in January 2006.
She was a driving force of the band called The Heavy Metal Jazz Concepts. The 1st release entitled "Heavy Metal Jazz Concepts" is an inventive fusing of rock into traditional jazz songs. The 2nd album "Heavy was a Sweater", rock jazz fusion, consisting of Himiko and her musician friends' original tunes. This was charted at #6 top 20 jazz in National Canadian college radio chart (earshot).
Born in Saitama, Japan, Himiko relocated to North America and attended The University of Michigan, where she graduated with highest distinction. Her current home is in Alberta, Canada, where she graduated from Grant MacEwan College on the Dean's list, with honours and an A.A. performance major in keyboards with distinction.
During her tenure at college, Himiko was awarded music and radio scholarships, following that she received a Foundation To Assist Canadian Talent On Record Grant. This demo recording of her original smooth jazz material "Sensually Yours" reflected to #17 top 20 jazz in National Canadian college radio chart (earshot).
Renowned and respected pianist Charlie Austin states "She is a very talented jazz pianist and composer whose work reflects her deep commitment to not only the art of jazz but also to the depth of feeling, finesse, caring and intellect with which she presents her work! She is truly worth listening to! She will convince everyone with her strong emotional expression".
She has an innate, elastic talent for composing that is strong and skillful. Himiko's compositions and skill evidenced by her new recordings will establish her as an important voice in the electronic music world.

Beautiful J-electronica

Himiko's Third album is quite simply beautiful. Theres a lot less of the rock experimentation found on other albums (Mugen, Heavy Metal Wnnabe...) but nonethelss its worth getting If you like her more chilled out tracks. the whole album flows with light J-electronic / J-popcrossover, again with Himikos trademark keyboard skills keeping you glued - waiting for those twinkling fingers to excite your ears ^_^.
Another big difference to the other albums is the inclusion of vocals. these take a backseat to the music, and are almost used as in instrument themselves, rather than as a lead vocal. This suits the album perfectly.
Standout tracks for me are Kodoku Sogai and Kokoro No Omori (as these are the heavier tracks on this reasonably placid album)
If your into J-electronica, or light J-rock, i highly reccomend. Especially fans of the Ghost in the Shell Soundtracks lighter tracks (I sometimes see Himiko as the next Yoko Kanno! I personally think with the right equiptment and the use of a lead vocal on a couple of songs; Himikos art could easily be used for anime [like GitS SAC], film or game sountracks.)
So another wonderfull album, pushing in another direction, but still feeling definatly Himiko. An artist who deserves more recognition in my opinion.
If you like this, please do get the other albums. The diversity is amazing ^_^. Be warned though - her newer works are nothing like this! Its probubly best to work your way forwards through the albums if you like light dancy, jazz, electronica, and work backwards if your into extreme music.
