Eddie Hinton was an enigma...I met him when we were both about 17 and he seemed normal enough...
When he was about 22 his music career took off and he was writing songs for all the stars and playin' guitar on their records....
Vice President of Atlantic Records JERRY WEXLER always said "Eddie would be the next big thang" but his mental problems only got worse.
Around i969 I was livin' next door to him on Shoals Creek and he started actin' really stange..it got much worse but he always kept writin'..and I NEVER heard him complain !
I have always been facinated by the mad genius and that's about where Eddie was durin' the time of this video..1986.
A few years earlier he had stopped recording and producing and writing songs....He had lost EVERYTHANG and walked everywhere he went...
He came to Decatur because he said he had no where else to go and I found him several places to live and even bought him a little Scotty Camper Trailer to live in...he burned it down !
At this time he had only released one masterful LP on Capricorn called VERY EXTREMELY DANGEROUS....I was determined to get him back in the studio and to preserve his rare talent. We recorded LETTERS FROM MISSISSIPPI and immediately leased it to a Swedish record label...
Hinton was back...or as The Birmingham News paper called it " ROCKER ON THE REBOUND".
LETTERS FROM MISSISSIPPI put Hinton back on the map and now he has become a cult figure. He died at 51 but it is truely amazing the amount of material he left behind !
This is the only live video footage of Hinton available anywhere...so get it while you can !
This is over an hour long VHS Video Tape is all we have to remember him by....it shows his unique sense of humor...tales from his life...he makes up dozens of songs on the spot...
The way the Video happened ...
A friend of mine was on his way to his factory job early one mornin' and he stopped by the place where I was livin' and Eddie was livin' in my houseboat that was in the backyard on a trailer......
IT was very early in the mornin' but I was up already workin' on a 4th of July Show we were plannin' to do...about that time Eddie came around the side of the house...and he was feelin' no pain ! Mark George, the boy that brought the camera and tripod, told me "Wyker if you don't get some of this on film NO-ONE will ever believe it all happened !
So I turned to Hinton and I said "Eddie let's do it like The Little Racals" would do a show...like The Tonight Show or somethang !"
So we got busy and put a set together and did a minimal of preplannig....and I told Eddie to get off camera and play some intro music and when I closed The Big Book to stop !
Then I would introduce him and he would come on and do and play whatever he wanted to....no pressure at all.....we really had no idea that The World would see this Video Tape ....
but if you like Hinton's music...you must see this Video Tape....it's like bein' in a room with him for an hour and he's in a great mood !
I predict that this video footage will become as important to HINTON'S legend as that one still picture we have to remember Robert Johnson by....only this is "live" action !
Dick Cooper and I went into the video editing studio and tagged and intro on to the original video footage and at the end we put a couple of songs with some never before seen still shots from Cooper's amazing still photo collection.
If you are a true Hinton fan I know you will enjoy this one of a kind rare and unique Video Tape !
Your friend in Bama-Lama Land !

Review from Mick Hubbard
1.) This is a great video, the viewer can see legendary songwriter, producer and guitarist Eddie Hinton in an extremely rare and candid moment of enjoyment that Hinton hardly experienced during the last years of his life. Along with songwriter John D. Wyker, Hinton sings, plays guitar and talks about his new album "Letters From Mississippi."
2.) The Johnny Wyker Video will delight fans of Hinton as it gives them a rare look into the singing and playing style, as well as the unique personality of the legendary Muscle Shoals musician. Aspiring musicians will enjoy watching the video over and for a closer study on Hinton's unique style and it will give the viewer a better understanding of the way the man (Hinton) works his magic.
3.) This video is really cool. It shows Eddie Hinton and John D. Wyker in really good moods talking and joking around at home as well as playing music, singing and in general fooling around like a couple of guys would do when celebrating getting a record deal after all the hard work has paid off. It opens with Wyker today addressing the viewer and giving some background into the upcoming footage and then starts with credits rolling, really Hollywood style in the way it was put together. 5 stars for Wyker's talent as a producer, Wyker has taken a home video and it is now a real "Rockumentary" on a day in the life of the "Great-White Soul Singer, Eddie Hinton." This is a must for all Hinton fans and soul enthusiats. I give it 5 stars.
