Album Notes

Hip Graffiti

Presenting: Carol Fuller and Jay Myerson, widely-celebrated California musicians and leaders of the band Hip Graffiti. The upcoming release of their Jazz and vocal CD," This Is: Hip Graffiti", promises to stir the souls of Jazz lovers of every flavor.

"This is:" features twelve great Jazz standards, combined with two interpretations of non-Jazz themes, to create a perfect blend of sensational beats, complemented by powerfully-delivered soulful lyrics.

We chose these pieces to honor the artists who have inspired and sustained us, and to express the joy and love we have for their music.
It is our hope that we can make jazz accessible to every one, by use of modern arrangements of standards, with out losing it's sense of urgency, and the excitement of improvisation.

If this is jazz, I want more of it. A friend of mine told me about this group. I like singing more pop styles, and my friend said I should check this singer out. I mean I totaly like the band but the vocals are great. Whay arent these guys on MTV?

Sublime

At first viewing the song selection seems eclectic, but after hearing the treatments, you really start to get the feeling these guys are on to something. This by no means is your average jazz record full of over played songs. The arrangements are full of some nice twists. This really makes this CD stand out of the pack. The band is tight and play off of each other, giving each other room to stretch out. Though the Vocals of Carol Fuller and the Guitar work of Jay Myerson seem to be featured, the rest of the rhythm section is by no means left in the back ground. All get there chance to shine here. Of particular interest to me was "A Lotus On Irish Steams" a duet between key board and guitar, some very sublime moments on this cut. And the most tender vocal on "Love Dance" these are worth the cost of the CD alone. I think the other review sums it up well. These guys have really done there home work, and have strived to bring the jazz fan something new.

The Great American Song Book Gets a Welcome Face Lift
author: JazzFanMusicMan
This CD is a must have for any Jazz fan. It really shows there are fresh new talented players out there. This CD represents a fresh approach to some tried and true and much loved standards. The treatment of the older songs here is done with respect, yet with great new arrangements. The soprano vocal, is a welcome relief to the alto female singer's we already love and hear. The vocals shine, with a passion. The Band that backs these vocals is first class. I am sure we will be hearing more from them soon. The guitar playing is fresh and fast, with clean staccato, lines in the vain of Pat Martino, also a great hint of Sonny Sitt can be heard in these clean lines. It is great jazz with a twist from players that have spent time doing there homework listening to the great’s. I Love it!!!!!
