Album Notes

"Wish I Was Here" is the debut EP from Los Angeles singer/songwriter Eric Hirshberg. In the brief time since its debut, "Wish I Was Here" has generated a lot of buzz amongst several taste makers in the L.A. music scene.

Indie pop queen Liz Phair calls it "A rare peek behind the male veil." In fact, Phair, who was an early supporter of Hirshberg's, lends her backing vocals to the song "Bend."

KCRW DJ Liza Richardson says "Wish I Was Here" is "Expressive and honest, beautifully recorded and shining with creative talent and energy. Eric could give Pete Yorn a run for his money."

In fact, R. Walt Vincent, the producer of both of Pete Yorn's albums says, "Wish I Was Here' is a great sounding collection of bittersweet melodies and sing along rock anthems. This is a great EP."

Several of Eric's songs have been receiving airplay on the influential LA radio station, KCRW. DJ Anne Litt says "Eric has a great pop sensibility. His songs are stylish, driving and full of passion." DJ Trisha Halloran says "Eric is a great songwriter. 'Wish I Was Here' has that sticks-in-your-head quality."

The song "Two Lost Souls" has been selected to appear on the movie soundtrack to the upcoming release, "See This Movie," produced by Chris and Paul Weitz, the team behind "About a Boy" and "American Pie."

Hirshberg's path to pop music is a unique one. Although he has been writing songs for years, Hirshberg leads a double life as one of the country's most prominent advertising creative directors. His passion for music and ear for hooks have snuck into much of his award winning ad work. His campaign for Mitsubishi Motors catapulted several unknown bands (Dirty Vegas, The Wiseguys, Telepop Musik) to the tops of the charts. He and his team are also behind the now famous "Wingman" tunes for Coors Light and many other award winning campaigns. Bringing his passion for advertising and music together, Hirshberg was recently tapped by Jon Bon Jovi to direct the upcoming music video for the Bon Jovi's new single "Have a Nice Day." But no matter how all encompassing his advertising career has become, his passion for songwriting has never diminished.

Hirshberg worked with producer/mixer John Hiler (Smashing Pumpkins/Liz Phair) to bring these songs to life. Hirshberg's songs blend effortless pop hooks with a straightforward, roots rock sound and fiercely personal lyrics. "Wish I Was Here" is a truly independent production and a labor of love. The kind that no amount of pull towards other responsibilities could quiet.

Honest, courageous song writing like this is hard to find. I can’t wait for the follow-up CD. Having heard Half Way Home, I’m confident Eric will clear the bar that he set so high with Wish I Was Here

Haunting, knowing, by turns sad and joyous, and lovingly done.

"Haunting" is an overused phrase, but that's what this album is. There's a clear signature style here, yet each track has it's own distinct sound and mood, which ranges from sad and reflective to angry to joyous.Interesting fusion of rock and intelligence.

Hi, Mandy, this is Eric. The song you heard on the radio is called "Half Way Home," which is also the title track of my upcoming CD. KCRW got an advanced copy and were kind enough to start playing it. The CD will be available here on CD Baby within the next month or so, so check back. Thanks for the interest and the kind review.

I recently heard a song of Eric's on the radio and it led me to buy this CD. The CD is wonderful, but song I heard is not on this CD. Does anyone know if he has something new coming out? I hope so, because both the song I heard on the radio and the songs played here are wonderful. Moving and memorable.
