Born and raised in Houston, TX, Edward Hobizal has studied classical piano since the age of five. After training and experience in guitar, sax, bass and drums, he chose to focus his efforts on the piano at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, with an emphasis on jazz performance. This led him to several awards and much national recognition, including Third Place at the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition in 1989, as well as an appearance on the Disney Channel's Mickey Mouse Club Show that same year.
Edward eventually went on to study at New York University, and began performing in Houston, New York, and beyond, working with such Texas talents as Sebastian Whittaker and the Creators. In 1999, Mr. Hobizal moved to Austin, and has since had the opportunity to perform and/or record with Sara Hickman, Eliza Gilkyson, Slaid Cleaves, Shawn Colvin, La Tribu, Will Taylor and Strings Attached, Tina Marsh and CO2, and many other Austin-based artists. Ed currently performs in Austin and elsewhere, teaches piano at the Austin School of Music and is currently promoting his original CD Anamnesis, available at www.ejhtrio.com, www.cdbaby.com/hobizal and Waterloo Records.
