notes

You may have seen gray duct tape on the walls of your favorite club with the words "Hog Legg Ellis" written in black marker. Maybe you have seen their name carved inside a public restroom. However you have heard of this band, you have chosen to visit this site and clicked here to the bio page to learn more about Hog Legg Ellis and who they are. The sounds they produce follow no blueprints of today's bands. They are unique and original in every aspect. Jeromy Yager (Drums) could fill up a few pages on his own with his musical adventures in the past decade. He's done countless of recordings at Awesome Works Studio and spent almost 2 years on the road w/ Mark David Manders while HLE was first getting off the ground.Joe Churchill (Bass) walked away from the family farming business to pursue his musical aspirations. He spent most of his youth playing guitar in dance halls across south Texas and since 2003 has found his place with Hog Legg Ellis. Rushin Steele ( Vocals & Guitar) knows what it's like to play a run down dive in Austin especially after years of alias names and musical directions. His poetic blue collar songwriting style is a unique feature to this band and it's direction. Samuel Colunga (Lead Guitar) has a style of guitar playing that doesn't go unnoticed. When Sammy's dad died he focused all of his energy on guitar as a healing process. He spent a majority of the 90's on the highways of Texas with every kind of band from Tejano to Modern Blues. Even though Hog Legg Ellis was formed in 1999 the concept of what was to become Hog legg Ellis is over 15 years in the making. Rushin and Sammy were mixing Haggard and Hendrix long before any thought of a Texas Music movement. By accident or by God they have come back around full circle for their chance at a dream that was never forgotten.

This isn't your run of the mill hokey pokey Texas Music. It kinda reminds me of The first Drive By Truckers CD.It's powerful, raw and in your face. I'm most impressed with the singers voice. Jay Farrar comes to mind or even Steve Earle. If your looking for something to the left of mainstream Texas Music. This will blow your mind in a very good way. 10 stars

From start to finish this CD is evocative of whiskey nights in smokey barrooms where the real heart and soul of music lives.
