Album Notes

Hojas Rojas KILLMEILOVEYOU band/album info

Minneapolis pop/rock/electronic explorers HOJAS ROJAS spent the last year working on their debut album– KILLMEILOVEYOU– with wiz-producer Mark Stockert (Underwood Studios), and are releasing it on the burgeoning Magnolia Recording Co. label.

The band was formed in 2004 by singer/multi-instrumentalist D.J. Kukielka and now features the mighty talents of New Congress member Manuel Guzman on bass, Ceturions/Spikedriver drummer Tim Hovanetz and guitarist T.J. Shaffer. The band has undergone a spectacular metamorphosis and incorporated new members to forge a truly unique sound that nearly defies categorization of any kind.

KILLMEILOVEYOU literally bounces from one extreme to the next at the drop of a hat- from tender, teasing ballads like “I Hope it Snows,” which brings to mind the fuzzy alt-pop of Teenage Fanclub, to sonically aroused keyboard driven anthems like “Sunbeam,” to quirky, Pink Floyd-ian sound collages like “Rainfall,” and the electronic-laden alt-country opener “You Don’t Know Me at All.”

KILLMEILOVEYOU is alternately a howling, spitting, careening beast on the loose and a gentle, half-drunk bar-stool philosopher, the record courageously batters down the walls dividing roadhouse-raunch, electronic music, and sugary pop, leaving an indelible imprint on even the most jaded listener.

Excerpt – “If The Legend of Zelda were a full length film by Ang Lee, this album would be the soundtrack.”
