Album Notes

John and Kathie Hollandsworth are natives of Christiansburg in southwest Virginia, and have been performing since the early 1980's, with a repertoire that includes, but is not limited to, traditional Appalachian, old-time, and Celtic music.

John has been developing his own autoharp style since childhood, when he became familiar with traditional music through hearing friends and relatives play stringed instruments.

He and his wife Kathie, who sings and plays hammered dulcimer and upright bass, enjoy finding out about their musical heritage and sharing the vibrant culture of the Appalachians with their audiences.

They play at public festivals, private parties, interpretive events, and school concerts, and also regional and national events.

About their friends who helped them record "The Green Fields of Virginia," John and Kathie say: Over the years, we?ve grown to be friends with many excellent musicians in our area of the Blue Ridge, and we?re delighted to have a few of them help us bring these tunes to life.

Steve Kilby is a well-known bluegrass flatpicker and is sought after as a teacher of that style.

Jim Lloyd and Ed Ogle have been our wonderful partners in the band ?Mountain Fling? for more than a decade, and we love to make music with them.

We play with Tim Sauls in another old-time band, the ?Big Lick String Stranglers,? and he is a member of the versatile Appalachian-Irish band ?Celtibillies.? Of course, it?s special to have our daughters Sidney and Lane contribute their talents.

We?re glad that they, and our son Forrest, all enjoy making music of their own.
