What are Hollow Horse like ? Well, a wee mixed bag of sweeties really; sort of Crowded House meets Paul Weller with a twist of Roy Orbison and a subtle hint of Elvis Costello. Sounds good ? They are good. Chris Difford said,'These songs are great'.

Album Notes

Formed in Glasgow during the Autumn months of 2001, Hollow Horse have developed steadily since their inception. Every step has been a forward movement, every gig a lesson learned. As a result, the band have suffered little of the self-mythology and unwarranted hype which has proved the ruin of so many of their contemporaries.

Following recent ambitious recording experiments which saw the band utilising brass, woodwind, strings and additional backing vocalists, Hollow Horse are currently operating as an essential quartet with emphasis placed firmly on thrilling musicianship and the multi-faceted abilities of band members Kenny Little, David Wotherspoon, Ian Stevenson and Kevin Devlin.

With willing participation in numerous festivals and benefit shows over recent years and appearances on T.V. and Radio and many prestigious West of Scotland venues to their credit, the group have cultivated a sharply-honed live sound and charismatic stage presence. Hollow Horse look set to translate a rapidly blooming local acceptance into future national success.

Glasgow music at it's best

As 'difficult second albums' go, this is a corker, 11 tracks of utter delight, the lyrics, musicianship, the singing all gel to make this a very good album indeed. The trouble with having an album with no weak tracks make it difficult to pick a favourite, but if pushed then tracks Just to Know, If Love is the Answer and Beggarstown do it for me. Can't wait for the 3rd album. Some Hollow Horses produce Greeks, this Hollow Horse produces great music.

Some of the best music I've heard in ages

Thank you for sending me the Hollow Horse CDs. I am seriously hooked on them. These are lovely, well-crafted, and soulful pop/rock tunes. In the Philippines, yes, we would classify this as New Wave simply because it reminds us of the Big Dish, the Icicle Works, and the Blue Nile -- that melancholic alternative sound. My favorite tracks thus far are "Forget the Girl" and "Do What You Do Best." We will definitely add numerous Hollow Horse tunes to WXB 102. By the way, "I'm Left Wondering" is no. 11 on our charts. This is some of the best music I've heard in ages.

This is a gem. Life-affirming, passionate, intelligent and full of great tunes, riffs and surprises - I'll Be Right Beside You has to be one of my top ten of all time, once you've got that accordian solo inside your head it's there for life. It's just so good to hear real music from real musicians who know what they're doing and, perhaps more importantly, have seen a bit of real life and have something to say about the stuff we all struggle with at one time or another - great credit to Hollow Horse for managing to produce beautifully crafted, timeless and genuinely moving music in the midst of a torrent of disposable tripe. To anyone with functioning ears, I wholeheartedly recommend Beggarstown as a CD you won't ever misplace or lend to anyone. Great stuff.

A good find from Scotland

Hollow Horse's second CD spans various styles, from a kind of folky Crowded House( on such songs as 'Forget the Girl' or 'Beggarstown)to blue-eyed soul pop on the standout track 'Do what you do best' which should be on the radio everywhere. A very enjoyable album indeed.
