Album Notes

Racehorse is the first solo release by singer/songwriter Holly Ramos, and features the surprising and beautiful version of the Kinks' "Art Lover"! The melodies are poppy. The delivery and phrasing are loose. The writing is modern and reminiscent of classic 60's and 70's pop. The voice is sweet like a child and sexy like a woman. The stories are heartbreaking and funny. The attitude is punk. The edge is so nyc that they can't help but repeatedly compared her to classic new york underground legends like New York Doll Johnny Thunders and Andy Warhol superstar Andrea Feldman.

Racehorse is produced by Jess Stroup, with the exception of one track. Kiss Like a Waterfall was produced by Jesse Malin and Ryan Adams from an earlier recording session which included Joe McGuinty on the wurli, Paul Garisto (Iggy Pop) on drummers , and Fil Izler (Robbie Williams) on bass.

Born and raised in Manhattan, Holly was front woman of the band FUR and the infamous DJ of GREENDOOR fame throughout the 90's. Fur released their self titled cd and a handful of singles on Blackout! records. Holly has collaborated and recorded with the lovely superstar Antony, of Antony and the Johnsons, winner of 2005 Mercury award. She co-wrote the songs “Cigarettes and Violets” on Jesse Malin’s The Fine Art of Self-Destruction cd and “God’s Lonely People” on The Heat cd. She even played guitar in Joey Ramone's band for his Christmas show at Coney Island High.

Holly has performed everywhere from CBGB’s and Jackie 60 to the Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City, and has toured the US and Europe. Holly’s experience of growing up punk is quoted in the American Hardcore, the definitive book on the history of hardcore punk music by Steve Blush.

The LA Weekly's Steven Leigh Morris commented on the “riveting sensuality” of her work; Variety’s Julio Martinez called her work “Outstanding”; AP magazine called her “a star already”; and David Noh in Film Journal International compared her to Warhol superstars Andea Feldman and Patti D'Arbanville; and Entertainment Weekly listed her in "The 10 Best Bands You've Never Heard Of "...yet!

A Wonderful Accident

Living in Cambridge , England, i shuldn't even know about this c.d. but in a wonderful accident of chain events , i do and i think i have fallen in love. the voice, above all the wonderful songs, the thought provoking - picture painting - lyrics, above them all. The understated musical layerings - subtle yet stark when needed, above even this - the voice. at a time when i thought it least likely, that voice has made want to be American. As i said, i shouldnt know about this c.d.but i do and i am glad i took the ride
