Album Notes

The Bee Sides CD is the band's first release in their six-year history. It features a wide range of original material such as rockers "Sugar and Spice," "Road Trippin," and "Ruby's Boogie" along with the jungle rhythm tinged, "Seeing Green." They also perform the classic "Just Because" and lesser known, but still powerful, "Hip Shakin' Baby."

The Honeybees are primarily known for the tight vocal harmonies of Barbara Clifford and Rachel Decker along with the explosive drumming of co-founder and long-time Chicago music scene mainstay, Theresa Drda. The CD was recorded at Curved Air Studios in Grayslake, IL and co-produced, and mixed down by Billy Horton of Fort Horton studios in Austin, Texas.

1950's Rockabilly meets roots meets the early 1960's would describe the band's musical bent, but from there, the Honeybees move into a tight, modern energy mode that's driven by guitarists Shawn Koch, Mark Braun, and bassist, Michael Hogeorges.

The band's influences range from rockabilly and roots legends including Wanda Jackson, Janis Martin, Brenda Lee, Chuck Berry, The Sonics, Ricky Nelson, and T-Bone Walker, to modern artists such as Rosie Flores and The Paladins.

The Honeybees have played a wide variety of venues and events in Chicago and in cities across the U.S. They have shared the stage with Rosie Flores, Los Straitjackets, Wanda Jackson, Junior Brown, Big Sandy, the Paladins, Deke Dickerson, Ray Condo and Sonny Burgess.
Festivals include Taste of Chicago, Shake The Shack (Seattle), Hollywood Showdown (L.A.), Viva Las Vegas, Rockin’ 50’s Fest (Green Bay 2005 & 2007), Screamin’ Fest (Spain), Rockabilly Rebel Weekender (Indianapolis), and most recently the Rockabilly Bombardment No. 3 (Austria/Germany).

Barb, Rachel, and Theresa are an explosive team. The vocals are incredibly well-blended. The drumming is mixed really well... and intentionally high in the mix. Theresa's skills really shine through. This is my favorite CD.
