Album Notes

The Honey Dewdrops are a nationally touring and award winning husband and wife duet who perform fresh, original songs.

"If the Sun Will Shine," their debut record, was released May 2009. Recorded live and mixed in a 1920's barn, the record is meant to pay homage to their live performances - full of the same energy and emotion the Honey Dewdrops bring to the stage. The album is a collection of songs that The Honey Dewdrops have written over the past two years and it features material that comes straight from the heart. There are eleven original tunes - some of which are award winners, and a few of the songs got Laura and Kagey plane tickets to St. Paul, Minnesota where they appeared on A Prairie Home Companion’s "People in their Twenties Talent Show" (and won first place) in March 2008. Additionally, the Dewdrops were selected as finalists in the 2009 Mountain Stage NewSong competition. This is a record capturing "something haunting, melancholic and all-together charming" (Jeff Royer, Fly Magazine).

Here is what folks are saying about the Honey Dewdrops:

“When you listen to the Honey Dewdrops, you can't just listen to one song - you just want more, more, more. Their gentle spirits come with powerful voices while the instruments have voices of their own. This is fresh, homegrown music but deeply rooted in tradition and most importantly it is really good!"
- Anne & Pete Sibley

“I have admired the work of the Honey Dewdrops from the first notes I heard. They capture what is best of old time Appalachian music including the tight harmonies and beautiful melancholy tunes.”
- Anne Williams, host of WNRN’s Acoustic Sunrise on 91.9FM

“They’re the hottest thing I've heard in Charlottesville right now…and they're just pure raw talent.”
-Terry Martin, owner and manager of the Outback Lodge in Charlottesville, VA

“The best instruments the pair has to offer—Wortman’s unblemished vocals and Parrish’s long, restless fingers on the fretboard of anything stringed —are finely tuned…”
-Brendan Fitzgerald, C-Ville Weekly

Some of the most pure harmonies you'll hear, great songwriting and great guitar playing. What more could you ask for in an Americana album? New songs that sound like they were passed down from the old-timers? They're here too. Since the first time I heard The Honey Dewdrops on Prairie Home Companion, they have been favorites of mine and this CD offers some of their best songs. If you get the chance, see them in person, until then listen to "If the Sun Will Shine."

This is one of my favorite records by one of my favorite groups. Great songs, great singing and great playing. Laura Wortman has a voice you must hear to believe and Kagey Parrish can really play. They have put together a great collection of songs that I can listen to over and over. I am waiting eagerly for their next album!
