Album Notes

The Hoodoo Drugstore is the 'brainchild' of songwrtier/bassist/artist Mike Sweeney. Based in Pittsburgh, America's first gateway to the west, this CD is a documentation of rural & southern roots music, following the rivers from Pittsburgh to the Gulf Of Mexico. The sources of American music seem to follow this same flow south. Anglo-Irish mountain ballads mixed with delta blues and spirituals to form country, gospel and eventually rock & roll.
With the help of some friends, Sam Klingensmith on banjo, accordion, dobro, mandolin and guitar and vocalists Robert Peckman, Bobby Wayne and Eugene Morgan this concept has been realized. Every song on this CD is a slice of life in Americana.
