The Hoodoo Drugstore is the 'brainchild' of songwrtier/bassist/artist Mike Sweeney. Based in Pittsburgh, America's first gateway to the west, this CD is a documentation of rural & southern roots music, following the rivers from Pittsburgh to the Gulf Of Mexico. The sources of American music seem to follow this same flow south. Anglo-Irish mountain ballads mixed with delta blues and spirituals to form country, gospel and eventually rock & roll.
With the help of some friends, Sam Klingensmith on banjo, accordion, dobro, mandolin and guitar and vocalists Robert Peckman, Bobby Wayne and Eugene Morgan this concept has been realized. Every song on this CD is a slice of life in Americana.

Feel good music
author: bigmaple
Listening to this album always brings out many emotions in me. Seriously, this music is great "americana" as they say, most of it fun music; some of it with deep messages about our lives and our way of life.
"Takin' the Trestle" takes me back to my childhood; my adventurous days having battles in the woods & rope swinging into the creek. Being from Western Pennsvania myself, and having personally seen coal mining going on while growing up, the "Cost of Coal" is a powerful reminder of what our way of life costs some people.
"Mister Mule" is another great song of the country and how much work is involved in the business of living.
"Atchafalaya", "Stoopin' and a Pickin'", and "Mudcat" are all great fun tunes of our diverse country.
I can't really express how great most of these songs are. All in all, this record is a great buy!
