I just listened once again to this, the second Hootenanny Night compilation, and I have to say, despite my obvious bias (I am the Hootenanny host after all), this is a tuneful, amazing collection and I love every minute of it. Take a listen, and see if you're not surprised and delighted. Yeah, I know. You've never heard of these guys. But I've listened to hundreds of music samplers over the years, and I wouldn't be ashamed to place this right along side of the best of them. There are 18 tracks here. All have been donated generously by artists who have played at the monthly Hootenanny Nights at the Cafe International in SF. There's just no way to describe the songs in one sentence. Hootenanny is a folk music show, but some of the songs here will rock your pants off. Others will caress you in the deepest part of your being. It's folk music (for the most part), but this collection is proof positive that folk music does not have to be BORING. These songs have a pulse. They are intense and alive and the melodies will bop around merrily in your head for weeks and months to come. And don't forget to get yourself out to a Hootenanny some time. www.sfhootenanny.com
