Album Notes

Resurrection Chant is the stand-out song of this diverse CD. The Heart of the City Worship Band is a 22-member group with 12 vocalists, a 4 piece brass section, drums, percussion, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar and keyboards. They are from Minnesota and are based in the Twin Cities. Led by founding members and ministry directors, Dan and Sandy Adler, this group has been leading regular inter-racial, inter-denominational worship gatherings called Heart of the City Worship Celebrations in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area since August of 1996. Each of the members of this group comes from different churches and denominations. Their different ethnicities include African-American, Caribbean, Latino, Hmong, Chinese, Native American, Filipino, East Indian and Caucasian. The focus of their ministry is on bringing racial and denominational unity and reconciliation to the Body of Christ through worship.

The Heart of the City Worship Band is known for the variety of styles of worship music that they use and the depth of their lyrics. Their musical styles go from Black Gospel to hymns, contemporary praise and worship, Reggae, Latino, Native American, choral, jazz and rock. Some of their songs are also sung in Spanish and in Hmong, reflecting the make-up of their band and many of the churches of the city.

Besides their regular Heart of the City Worship Celebrations in the Twin Cities, the group often serves as guest worship leaders at other churches, conferences and worship seminars. They often travel as a reduced size group of 9 to 12 members instead of with the full 22 piece band as well.

The Heart of the City Worship Band has released three CD’s entitled “What We Really Need”, “With One Voice” and “It All Belongs To You”. Several of their songs off of these projects have received airplay around the country on Christian radio.

Although songs from many backgrounds and writers are used at Heart of the City Worship Celebrations, all of the songs on these projects are written by band leader and founder, Dan Adler. Adler has written over 100 songs and has had several published by WORD Music, Alegis Music, the United Methodist Publishing House, Lillenas, Integrity, Maranatha and others. The song “It is Good” off of the “What We Really Need” project was also released on Ron Kenoly’s project “We Offer Praises” in January of 2000 on the Integrity Music label and re-released on the Ron Kenoly “Lift Him Up” Collection in 2005. He also has several songs published in three different denominational hymnals.

Wonderful Multicultural Worship!!
author: Edna McElwee
I would have bought this CD just for the "Resurrection Chant", but have been blessed over and over with each number. I have been at The Throne of God with all nations for quite awhile and Holy Spirit has led me to worship music from a number of nations. I love how you have several nations also represented with instruments of their own culture. Again, the words are so powerful lifting up the mighty holy names of our God...vocals and musicians are truly excellent and annointed. So...with my tambourine I join you in the Throneroom to sing and dance before our wonderful righteous King of Kings, Jesus. Be Blessed!

This band, as well as their music flow together. The different styles reflecting all different cultures and racial backgrounds. I especially enjoy Resurrection Chant, Great Creator and We Can Do Together. I catch the band whenever I can and told them I expected to see those three songs on the album, and they are! Check out their previous albums, too! They are a delight!

My first thought after listening to the CD was how smoothly all the different styles came together on this CD. It reflects to me what unity is all about - all the wonderful flavors, with natural and graceful transitions. Awesome work Heart of the City! Your message comes across all the clearer, by the way you bring together the instruments and voices on this CD.
