Album Notes

THE HOT DOGS play loud rock at unsafe speeds. Formed in 2000 in Portland, Maine, the Hot Dogs have built up a ravenous underground following with their infectious riffs, catchy melodies and outrageous stage performances. The debut album captures their signature straight-ahead garage-rock, but also includes songs that veer into the worlds of country, latin and reggae music, all with tounge-in-cheek humor and apocalyptic abandon. They have been called "Portland's most exciting band".

Here's what the critics say:

"What do you get when you cross Iggy Pop, The Dead Milkmen, Jello Biafra, and an actual sense of melody? A hot dog. No, seriously. You actually get four."

"The guitars have a fuzz that could have come straight from a '77 issue vinyl. The drums...are fast and on time, the bass is punchy, and the vocals are on target. Jeff Badger has a punk bravado that swaggers like a jilted, pissed off drunk guy. And he may be. But it sounds perfect."

"This is punk rock at its best -old school enough to keep the old-schoolers interested, and energetic enough to hopefully wean a few kids off their steady diet of nothing"

Portland Phoenix, 11/7/03

"[The] playing always shifts textures, colors fly through the sonic rainbow, vocals range from Jello Biafra granduer to tortured throaty howls and in any free spaces the lead guitar crams in as many hyper-speed phrases as it can. Exhilerating."

...[the] the slouch-back-and-roll country bounce on "Bottom Of the Ocean" [is] a rock tune about as great as anything I've heard."

"The Hot Dogs put the dirty back into punk."

"Rather than simply copping licks and style from their heroes, the Hot Dogs take their influences...and have fun with them, make them their own."

"Badger's voice is best when he takes things down a notch, his voice sounding like a cross between Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, and Jim Morrison, sinister crooners all. The Dogs are at their finest when they crank up the heat and shift the songs into overdrive, all chunky guitars, furious drums, and gang yells. Its a tension that plays out well."

I'll admit that when i was making the decision to purchase the CD i was hesitant, the song titles like "I'm So Drunk" gave me the idea that they were another immature me too punk band. Thankfully I went ahead and bought it. I am suprized that they havent hit the mainstream. Waiting for another album hopfully. By the way, there website seems to have been bought out. does this mean the Hot Dogs are gone for good?

I heard these guys on Maine Things Considered, and my son added the CD to his Chrsitmas list. When it arrived at my office, I was pleased to find it not shrink wrapped (way to go, CD Baby!) so I could listen to it. Righteous. I loved it! These guys are great, so good to hear local music like this. Tight, hard, smart, rockin. More more more!

4.5 Stars. Worst song is good. Variety strengthens the CD's staying power. Stro

I listened to the Hot Dogs CD every lunch hour for the first week I owned it, then deliberately lost it (temporarily). Two months later, I can still remember seven of the songs quite vividly. I bought the CD because of Blind, a truely exciting song; it starts with a somewhat ambiguous tempo which really wakes me up. So Long strikes me as a powerful stage piece with good dramatic expression. Feed Me Breakfast and I'm So Drunk are excellent and Your Pretty Face.... shows great theatric range. Bottom of The Ocean can sell any CD. Running Out of Things To Do sent me searching for Ray Manzerek and Bobby Krieger, of the Doors in the list of guest musicians. The Hot Dog's music is completely mingled with my blood. These are real tunes from a legitimate act. From top to bottom, the Hot Dogs' CD applies the steel toed boot to the denim seat in a righteous way.
