Album Notes

The music of Howard Baer is heard regularly on network television across Canada, used in schools throughout the USA, England, Germany, China, Malaysia and Korea, and has been played in the UK, Australia, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, and Japan.

During his 38year career Mr. Baer has had over 7000 of his arrangements recorded, has received seven JUNO nominations for album production including a win in 2000, and has composed and conducted numerous scores for TV and film including: Peter Ustinov in China, Winter Olympic Games (CBC TV Sports), Return Journey (with Stephanie Powers), Sesame Street, CBC Sportsweekend (CBC TV Sports), Computer Insider, Phantom of the Opera (with David Copperfield), CN Pavilion (Expo'86), ...and several IMAX films. He was music producer for three such IMAX films which ran at the OSAKA WORLD'S FAIR (1990) and more recently for the widely publicized TITANICA.

Howard Baer's music production can be heard on several SOLITUDES and AVALON releases available in Canada, the USA, and throughout the world. Recently, one of these projects, received this rave review: "This superb album seems to breathe the air of the Canadian northwoods... Mr. Baer's arrangements and production (both brilliant as a crystal spring) are nothing short of inspired." Two others have been recognized with JUNO nominations as Best Instrumental Album Of The Year: Celtic Awakening in 2000, Celtic Mystique in 2003.

Howard Baer's arrangements are featured on the JUNO Award Winning CD, 'Legacy of Hope' with Deborah Klassen, recognized as Best Gospel Album, in 1999.

Music for the 2000 WORLD'S FAIR in Hanover Germany, cowritten with Bruce Stacey, was recorded by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mr. Baer, at the worldfamous 'Magyar Radio Studios' in Budapest, Hungary.

Howard Baer is a longtime producer and arranger of music for children. It has been said that: "... a whole generation of children is growing up to the music of Howard Baer." Howard Baer's musical scores for radio and television advertising agencies have been airing for many years. Music production for JINGLES and INDUSTRIALS include: Toyota, PetroCanada, TSN, Skydome, Eatons, HewlettPackard, CHUM Radio, MS Society, IGA, Food City, Scotiabank, Addiction Research Foundation, Federal Express, Ultramatic, Mohawk College.

As a performer, Mr. Baer has appeared as guest synthesizer specialist with the Toronto Symphony, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Buffalo and Hamilton Philharmonics, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Symphony Hamilton, and as trumpet player with the Stratford Festival Orchestra. As well, he has toured as musical director and keyboardist for several theatre, cabaret, and revue productions across Canada.

In addition to conducting a variety of orchestras and ensembles over the years in the recording studio, Baer has enjoyed musical involvement at the community level and served for several years as conductor of both the Hamilton Concert Band and the North Hastings Community Choir. He was chair of Performing Arts Bancroft for 3 seasons and sat as director on the Algonquin Arts Council. He currently makes regular appearances as musical director and as composer for theatre productions in the Bancroft area.
