Album Notes

Heidi Howes got her first guitar at age 14, and has been singing and writing songs ever since. A graduate of Northland College, with a B.A. in Vocal Performance and Creative Writing, Heidi can go from Mozart to Mitchell in the course of one evening, and often reads from her published works of poetry.

Howes has performed on a variety of stages throughout the world, including: Lake Superior's Big Top Chataqua, the clubs and coffeeshops of her hometown Columbus, Ohio, and the streets and pubs of Europe. She has opened for, or performed with, the Blue Canvas Orchestra, The Chequamegon Bay Symphony Orchestra, John Gorka, D.D. Jackson, The Christian Howes Group, members of The World Saxophone Quartet, and many more.

This self-proclaimed "Northwoods girl" brings to the stage a powerful voice, rhythmic strumming, and insightful, resounding lyrics. Although Heidi's vocal talents include classical, jazz, blues, and gospel, her original work is steeped in modern folk. With strong melodies and timeless themes, Heidi shares her stories of tribulation and triumph.

Heidi's debut CD, Even Lovers Drown, was released in August 2002 by Freeze Productions, Inc., accompanied by her first book of poetry, The Morning After the Night She Fell Into the Gorge, Savage Press.

It's an impressive CD. Heidi's got a great voice and delivers strong lyrics. "Winter Miles" is one of the coolest songs ever written. The whole disc has a smooth accoustic groove and a really gentle instrumentation - fretless bass and sitar with light percussion. My mom thinks the CD is a little angsty, but I think a little angsty is good.
