This recording is lots of fun with good vocals and good lyrics throughout, too many to mention. The band works out with a cool combo of California harmonies and Western instrumentation (castanettes, congas, tidy slide guitar and beefy lead guitar). Britta Lee Shain’s vocals get down to brass tacks. Hers is one of the great eccentric female pop voices, with a delivery as distinctive as Rickie Lee Jones, Cindy Lauper or Maria Muldaur. Every singer in this band comes across, with voices connected to honest, unforced emotion. The resulting group vocal sound communicates a rare delight in singing together and those aforementioned Western harmonies. This band is having fun and it's fun to listen along.

A "howling" good CD!
author: Cynthia - Solana Beach, CA
This CD has great energy! I play it in my car all the time. The Howling Coyotes have two lead singers with very distinctive styles – a breathy-voiced female with an edge and a guy with a strong folk-style delivery. This plus really cool back-up vocals makes for a compelling and powerful mix. Some of these original songs focus on love, loss and frustration with a poetry that is reminiscent of Dylan. Others take a humorous, cynically upbeat approach to looking at life’s experiences. Throw in a haunting folk ballad and a modern-day epic about a psychotic fan “in a fast car,” along with fabulous guitar, bass, and mandolin playing, and I’d say you’ve got a “howling” good CD.
