Album Notes

Ska Ska Black Sheep represents the Hub City Stompers' fourth recording session with producer/engineer King Django at his Version City studio, and their first release on the Stubborn Records label. It features 7 new originals and 5 mind-bending dub mixes of tracks from their previous outings.

HCS have a truly unique sound built mainly off of 2-Tone, old-school hardcore punk rock and Jamaican flavors. This is skinhead hooligan party ska punk rock reggae at its finest-- clever, witty, even hysterically funny lyrics about often very serious subjects delivered via infectious grooves and super catchy melodies.

Named for New Jersey’s “Hub City” of New Brunswick, the Stompers formed in the summer of 2002 under the direction of fearless leader Travis Nelson (ex-Inpecter 7). In the wasteland of the seemingly "dead" New Jersey scene, these necromaniacs romanced ska's rotted corpse, playing for the love of the music rather than the popularity of it. Through countless performances at all-ages venues and local bars, HCS rapidly became a force to be reckoned with in the East Coast music scene.

Proudly roaming the no-man's-land between the popular ska-core world and the elitist trad-ska world, Hub City Stompers choose to entertain and offend everyone equally as they stick to their underground roots. Allied with all in this underground, they share the stage with ska, reggae, oi!, punk, and hardcore bands alike.

Embracing various styles and eras of ska from the 60's through the 80's, and adding reggae, punk, oi!, hardcore, jazz and even classical influences, Hub City Stompers avoid a typical, formulaic ska sound and steer clear of cliche poppy ska lyrics.

Their first full length CD, "Blood Sweat and Beers", was released in May 2004 on Megalith Records. This was followed by their self-released "Mass Appeal" EP in July 2005. "Dirty Jersey", their second full length CD, was released in December 2006, again on Megalith Records.
