Album Notes
Featuring Dutch guitarist Marcel Coenen on guitar and Hubi Meisel on vocals, EmOcean is set on the 30th of July in our time and space. The narrator is sailing on the Atlantic Ocean in a little boat and he is in a quite desperate situation. His compass behaves strangely and although his boat was only driven by wind craft, it is now driven by a strong power into the centre of a hurricane which causes pounding waves, hard pouring rain and a storm that churns up the sea. This seems all very strange to the man because he just wanted to sail in the Caribbean waters off the Bahamas Islands for some days. Some hours ago he was already a bit frustrated because he seemed to reach the Sargasso Sea but it was very hard to cross this still area. So he decided to wait for some wind. Now, in the late afternoon, he is surprised at this powerful vortex that drives his boat into a thunderstorm. He understands that he might be on the so called "Bimini-Road" and he really feels familiar with Odysseus... being at Ocean's mercy...

Hubi Meisel follows in the grand tradition of Arjen Lucassen
German vocalist Hubi Meisel follows in the grand tradition of Arjen Lucassen by creating an amazing sci-fi progressive metal conceptual album, EmOcean. While there isn’t a cast of guest vocalists, Hubi does create a wide range of vocal sounds that makes up for that. He has, however, assembled an all-star cast of progressive metal musicians for EmOcean. Joining Hubi are Vivien Lalu ( Shadrane) on keys, Marcel Coenen ( Sun Caged) on guitars, Daniel Flores (Mind's Eye) on drums, and Jean B. Affonco on bass.
The concept of EmOcean is about a man and his unusual encounter with Poseidon while traversing the Sargasso Sea. Poseidon appears and takes him down beneath the sea to the long lost civilization of Atlantis. There he feels the presence of the lost souls telepathically conveying a warning to him, a message about the meaning of all life and the nearly irreparable damages brought forth through the centuries by mankind. With this message from the ocean floor, our hero returns to the land above the sea to spread his message to the world. EmOcean is a beautifully well crafted musical journey that will win over fans of progressive metal based conceptual albums. It is one of four new releases that Lion Music has broken their neo-classical metal formula with. The other three are from Condition Red, Mister Kite and Sun Caged.

Fans of melodic, progressive metal as well as rock operas, this disc does the genre proud and stays clear of the cheese factor too.

M-A-G-I-C-A-L album...
“EmOcean” is unquestionably one of the most wonderful CD I have in my collection !!
I heard about it for the first time (and bought it) about a year ago and what I can say is that I really got impressed by the amount of work that was invested in this concept ! It’s a FANTASTIC piece of art !!!!!! My favourite one, in fact ! I would qualify it in one word: magical.

The concept idea is very deep, complex, meaningful, beautiful and interesting. It’s related to “water worlds”, “the above” and much more ! I let you discover it – this huge and marvellous story – by yourselves, as it really worth !!! It’s like a whole big story that continues itself through the songs…This is like a dream…and you’d only wish to be there…If you close your eyes, you really can “feel”, “see” even “smell” everything that happens in the album. You “fly” in that world…like in a fantastic movie…That’s M-A-G-I-C !!!
This perfect piece of work is very special, original, mystical, spiritual even relaxing, in some way ! This is the kind of album that makes your skin shivers to every note, every line, every sound. Also, the lyrics are so well written, the words so well chosen, this only adds more strength to the album because you can “see” clear images of every song in your mind…Hubi Meisel has such a way to describe things ! It’s very easy to picture everything here…

Hubi Meisel’s vocals are quite impressive too !!! They sound so sweet and he’s able to make all the “changes” he wants with it. He plays with his voice very well, which I especially love. This album is musically and vocally incredible and will leave you wordless, I can promise you that ! There are a lot of interesting variations through every song, for any aspect. I like the piano and keyboards very much, as there is a lot !!! The music is just amazing anyway !!! The album is simply “Emotional”.

But honestly, it’s very difficult to say which song is the best !!! ALL OF THEM are great equally – but for different reasons !! Personally, if I had to tell you which are my 3 favourite songs, I’d choose:

1- “EmOcean” (so sweet, so beautiful, my favourite vocals, just made me cry…)
2- “The Souls of Atlantis” (great musical, vocal changes and much more !)
3- “Sapientia Vitae” (great music, meaning and more too !)

But REALLY, all of them are AS GOOD AS each other and deserve to be listened to !!! I recommend it to everyone !!! That’s gonna make you see things in a way you never saw them before…Basically, “EmOcean” touched my heart and soul in a way I can’t describe and that’s now my favourite album.

In my opinion, Hubi Meisel and his musicians have done a “meticulous” job, here !!!! I just can’t wait for the next album !!! I’m really trustful that it’s gonna be quite “delightful” !!!
