Album Notes

Diane Hubka’s newest release, I Like It Here: Live in Tokyo, was recorded by the Sinatra Society of Japan's SSJ Records, who hosted the singer/guitarist for a two-week tour of Japan in Dec. 2007. Taped at JZ Brat Jazz Club in the Shibuya district of Tokyo, with a trio of seasoned Tokyo-based musicians, it successfully captured the excitement, energy, and raw emotion as only a live session can!

From the liner notes:
Diane’s vocal allure lies in her emotional but cool, controlled style. Stan Kenton loved female singers who had these qualities, including June Christy and Chris Connor, among others. If Diane was active in the 1950s, she certainly would have caught the attention of Mr. Kenton! Diane’s first live recording set a perfect stage to demonstrate her abilities. She showed everyone that she is a singer who selects her repertoire of standards and jazz tunes with distinctive tastes and sings them with a feeling that reflects our times, and that she is still growing. Diane Hubka, the Cool Beauty of the jazz world.
- Toshio Kobari, SSJ Records

With recent tours in Turkey & Japan, and regular appearances in Los Angeles, she continues winning the international acclaim that began when her first CD, Haven't We Met , was released by the Dutch Challenge/A-Records label in 1999. Featuring alto legend Lee Konitz, it garnered a Jazz Award Nomination for "Best Recording Debut." Whether singing with a group, or accompanying herself on seven-string guitar, All Music Guide calls her "one of the top jazz vocalists of her generation."
