Album Notes

The Hudson Jazz Ensemble takes no prisoners. The music is at once raw and refined, angry and joyful . What holds it all together is passion and originality. What they say is original, but the conviction makes the message unmistakable. This New York group and takes its inspiration and energy from the city around them and from the legacy of New York jazz that stretches from bebop through the present.

Michael De Nola and Gabriel Jodorkovsky met while they were both studying composition with the late Sir Roland Hannah at Queens College. The Ensemble was founded by Mr. De Nola and Mr. Jodorkovsky in 1997 while they were performing at a regular Sunday night loft session in Manhattan's Meat Packing District. This underground jazz scene took off, and they found themselves performing regularly all over the Tri-state Area.
Their compositions are wildly divergent, ranging from wistful (Elena, Elusive) to emphatic (The Consequences, It's Been a While) and from nostalgic (Another Song About Manhattan, Goody Three Shoes) to urgent (Knee Nose Back, Newsflash).

In 2002 the Ensemble recorded "The Consequences," produced by acclaimed trombonist/composer Luis Bonilla.

The members are:

Michael De Nola- Tenor Saxophone

Gabriel Jodorkovsky - Piano

Victor Jones - Drums

Eddie Venegas - Trombone and Violin

Reid Taylor - Bass
