Album Notes

A-D-D a fusion must!

Guitarist and composer Hugh Ferguson introduces his new CD A-D-D with Drummer Roger Carter and Bassist Brian Wright.
From the opener “300 Miles” to the final drum solo on “Hot Line” the music is powerful, tasteful and full of energy. The music transforms from chordal-melodic jazz, to rock-edgy with hints of classical on occasion.

Hugh Ferguson is a true Jedi Guitar Master of the highest level and A-D-D is highly recommended to fans of Allan Holdsworth, Jeff Beck, Pat Metheny and many other outstanding heavy fusion guitarists.

Roger Carter has a very impressive background in the drum corps arena including the Concord Blue Devils and this is his first recording in the jazz-fusion scene. His drumming will amaze you. Fans of Vinnie Colaiuta, Dennis Chambers, Chad Wackerman or other great fusion drummers will truly enjoy Rogers’s technical abilities and musical feel on this CD.

Brian Wright brings his jazz and salsa background into the A-D-D mixes. Brian has a B.S. in upright bass and his feel and timing is impeccable. Not only does Brian act as the glue holding down the bottom and the rhythm, he also adds several great solos that will impress all upright bass musicians.

There is also a guest appearance by Austrian guitarist Alex Machacek on "Total Distraction".

Hugh Ferguson – ”A-D-D” – Fusion jazz-rock with style!
author: Dag Fjellby

This is imho more jazz-fusion than jazz-rock. But Hugh Ferguson for sure knows how to play the guitar. As mentioned this is a must for fusion fans. Ferguson’s playing reminds me a lot of Allan Holdsworth and Frank Gambale. And – to be compared with Holdsworth and Gambale is no drawback. I said the guitar playing is amazing, but so are the band that are backing it up. The drummer and the bass player are very competent. I do think the compositions is a bit repetitive, but not at the point where it gets dull, no way! I will highly recommend this CD to folks who are more into jazz-fusion then too jazz-rock. It sounds great and the production is good. In my opinion I’ll give 4 STARS (PLUS) for this one.

A must have for all you fusion fans!

Hugh captures the essence of fusion with his non-stop lightning licks along with the outstanding bass lines from Brian Wright and tasteful drumming of Roger Carter. The recording quality and mix is, by my ears, dynamicly sound and when that upright bass comes in, WOW. Some may find the compositions a bit repetative but there's plenty to keep you interested and wanting more.

Power Trio Fusion at its Best
author: Jeff Gutenberg

This is an excellent high-energy set of blistering hot jazz-rock fusion. Ferguson's liquid legato solo style and angular compositions will instantly remind listeners of Allan Holdsworth, while Wright's electric upright bass injects a little bit more jazz flavor to the mix, and Carter is a pure percussive powerhouse in the mold of Chad Wackerman and Vinnie Colaiuta. Power trio fusion doesn't get much better than this, folks. After you listen to the sound clips here, for an extra-special treat, go to the guitarist's web site and watch the live video clips of his trio burning through several tracks from A.D.D. The playing is hot enough to melt your screen, so protective eyewear is recommended. :^)
