Victory Review, Volume 26, Number 11, November 2001.
Janet Humphrey and Mary Hartman have built up an enthusiastic following, particularly in their home base, the Tri Cities [Richland, Pasco, and Kennewick, Washington]. Admirers who have been hearing their solid lyricism, superb harmonies and irresistible melodies in local concert performances have been grabbing this CD - as was demonstrated by the number sold at the most recent Tumbleweed Music Festival in Richland. But there is always that fear when some of your favorite performers release a CD. Will the songs you love be buried beneath excessive production and added instrumentation? Or will the production, on the other hand, be too spare, with songs not quite fully realized? H and H wisely chose to augment their own vocals, guitars, banjo, and hand drums with the instruments of a few well-chosen friends - an occasional fiddle, bit of percussion, piano, added guitar part (by the tasteful Steve Hines and Dave Kennedy). The result is deeply satisfying. All that their fans have come to love in the H and H performances has been captured in this CD. The songs range from deeply moving... to witty... to traditional.... Join the fan club! (Bill Fisher)
