Album Notes

hunzer B. is the musical collaboration between songwriters Daniel Parker and Adrienne Krey. The two met in 2002 when do-good social activist Parker knocked on then museum curator Krey’s front door in NE Portland and asked her to donate to a political campaign.

Thirty-five bucks and four cups of tea later the pair, who had attended neighboring high schools in New York and shared the same orthodontist, became inseparable.

The songs on \'Little Scoop\' offer a soft array of colorful and wispy poems centered around modern love and partnership. The songs are modern folk/pop love songs. Simply structured but with a broad sonic palette that brings the music from the dulcimer and violin pizzicatos of “Green Love Still” and “Reservoir” to the Go-Go’s sounding drums, pop keyboards and guitars of “Anti-Valentine’s Song.”

Although the beauty of hunzer B. is in their songwriting, the gentle use of Appalachian lap dulcimer, acoustic guitar, glockenspiel, pianos, keyboards, wine glasses (in “Can’t Go Wrong”), and hand percussion set the earnest, earthy tone that the two themselves seem to embody.

Krey’s soft whispering voice is reminiscent of the Cocteau Twins but with the clear, soft melancholy overtones of shoegazing legend Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star and the ever prolific Low. She sings with Parker on many of the songs, and their voices blend sweetly on the harmonies. hunzer B. has also been justly compared to Red House Painters and Seattle’s Transmissionary Six.

Parker, who produced the record and has released two solo albums including the world-wide selling “Mend” in 2005, has also performed and produced for Portland-based TheRaining, Hunter Paye, New York-based Boys’ Star Library and the Guatemala to Portland transplants Soltura.
