Dynamic Rock- Folkie in substance and high energy in execution.

notes

Hy80 is a Jersey City based band of three siblings and a guy named Gary.
We can be characterized (or criticized?) as an antithesis of the ten-year-old indie-geekie-pop-punk thing. We specialize in a sound based not only on energy, but also on vocal harmonies and a dynamism not seen by today's standards. Not afraid to call ourselves fans of 60's and 70's groups ranging from The Who and Kinks to Neil Young, we also get into the less mentionable Humble Pie and Fairport Convention. Yeah, we like Nazareth and Thin Lizzy and Free. We like more cowbell. We can be quite jam-oriented and free to experimentation. We're also folkie in substance and high energy in execution.

Dan Hyland- Youngest member and the frontman of the band. Likes to play on his SG Gibson bass with the authority afforded the most prodigious players. Has an affable self-effacing nature not afforded the most prodigious players. Shares the vocals with two other members of the band.

Kevin Hyland- Drummer of the band. Has been in groups with consumer-tested names such as Smiling Potatoes, Dead Squash and The Ferguson 5. Has been continually playing since he was 16, when he saw old Who footage and Keith Moon, after which he went out and got two bass drums. Later he acquired a snare drum and some cymbals. Pioneered the technique of the stick toss used in blinding oneself.

Gary Townsley- Newest member joined in June '03. An very versatile guitarist who has in the past gained considerable knowledge due to his role as Engineer at Coyote studios in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Understands the subtlety of the band as well as finding 11 when need be. Usually seen with a Miller Lite.

Ellen Willwerth- Newlywed of the band. The essential part that gives Hy80 its distinction from others due to her ability on a variety of instruments including guitar, mandolin, flute and harmonica as well as the sole dispatcher of the Hy80 secret weapon- Mr. Walter J Willwerth

Hi guys! quite good! keep up the good work! December's song is a good taster, nice harp, very Beatlesque! But its all good. A pleasant surprise!

HY80 are proud fans of 60's and 70's classic rock, which is incorporated into their own unique sound that also includes a touch of jam, pop and punk. Another way to describe HY80's music is intense folk, they pen insightful lyrics combined with lively instrumentation. Their self titled, eleven track CD starts off strong with 'Let It Go', 'Out of Mind' and 'December's Song'. These three songs pack a big punch with dueling guitars, heavy rhythms and jams. The rest of the album explores a variety of styles and some probing instrumentals. The CD production is uncomplicated allowing the potential of the band to shine through. If you are looking for diverse and energized rock – look no further than HY80!
