Album Notes

"Hundred Year Flood combines smart hillbilly shake and stark ballads that feature the heartbreaking, riveting voice of Felecia Ford... and the
gorgeously understated drumming of Jim Palmer."
~Jonanna Widner, Santa Fe Reporter

"Flood has both strong male and female vocals, backed by an acoustic rock style, with some twang... Their CD is strong, with intricate guitar
playing and intelligent lyrics... I have a feeling they could become a Telluride favorite."
~Amy Kimberly, Telluride Watch

"You could go see an imitation of the real thing, or the real thing. These guys are the real thing..."
~Grant Hayunga, Goshen

"One of my favorite bands..."
~Joe West

"... excellent silky country pop... Not only are they cute, Hundred Year Flood can play too."
~Santa Fe Reporter

"...if you're lucky, you'll hear Felecia Ford sing..."
~Michael Corcoran, Austin American Statesman

Hundred Year Flood

Hundred Year Flood is currently based out of the art mecca
of Santa Fe, NM; recently transplanted from the live music
capital of the world, Austin, TX. They have played all over the
western U.S., including the Sundance Film Festival with
Goshen, and have toured extensively in Mexico. The
members are Felecia Ford (voice and keys), Bill Palmer
(guitar and voice), Jim Palmer (drums) and Kendra Lauman
(bass). They take country/folk sensibilities and rock them as
hard as a noise pop jam band, from stark darkness to a
frenzied twang. Felecia Ford is a West Texas master of voice,
who cut her teeth on Broadway show tunes and the big
production theatrical stage. Brother's Bill and Jim Palmer
were members of the legendary Sharecroppers, Austin's
groundbreaking bluegrass rockers from before bluegrass
was cool again. Kendra Lauman started her career with the
Flood and roots the music to the ground with her rock solid
bass. The band currently has two albums under it's belt:
2000's critically acclaimed self-titled release and 2003's
"Flutterstrut" just released on Frogville Records. They have
also recorded and performed with the likes of Goshen,
Nathan Moore (of ThaMuseMeant) and Joe West (Santa
Fe's legendary country rocker).

Hundred Year Flood's album, Cavalier, is their second album recorded under the Frogville Records label. John Treadwell, president of Frogville, has an ability to find, feed, nurture and love the very best of the best in his part of the world. This band and this album is nothing less than that. Felicia Ford's voice is mesmerizing and something that every singer can learn from. Bill Palmer's voice and exceptional guitar work, echoes through my brain almost everyday. Kendra Lauman's creative bass work is the glue that keeps the butter churning and Jim Palmer's phenomenal and sensitive drumming is so under appreciated it hurts. Cavaliers first track "Come On" is a song that I have literally dared people not to like. It is a song that takes a basic pop arrangement and stretches, twists and wrings every drop of goodness out of it. In my book it is impossible to not fall in love with this album after the first notes make contact with your eardrums. The wide scope and crossing over of genre's, make this album a "sure thing" for anyone who likes straight up rock and roll, Southern Fried Deep Soul, keepin' it real, down & dirty love making and well….. It’s for anyone who just likes really good music. Typically HYF reviews have the word “hillbilly” in them. I would like to challenge that notion, assuming that you agree that the word Hillbilly implies ignorance and backwards awareness issues, and say that their music is intelligent, politically aware, poignant, sensitive, creative and hip. If you were to base your opinion of their music on instrumentation, guitar tone and rhythm, then yes; you could say “hillbilly”, but then you would be the ignorant one. Dig deeper into this album and you will find every single ingredient required for great and powerful music. Do yourself a favor and spend your money on this CD, you will never regret it.
