notes
Described by OUTBURN magazine as "enthralling, first-rate modern rock," APPLE.COM as "soulful rock with a subtle electronic backdrop" and the DENVER POST as music that "pushes boundaries," Hypnogaja's brand of contemporary rock is driven by melodic, sophisticated songs that cater to no trend.
The new release, AUDIO FROM LAST NIGHT'S DREAM (Union State Records), combines music from Hypnogaja's past, present and future by including popular tracks from the albums BELOW SUNSET, ACOUSTIC SUNSET: LIVE AT THE LONGHOUSE, KILL SWITCH and POST-HYPNOTIC STRESS DISORDER with brand new songs ("Perfect Existence," a preview from the band's forthcoming new studio album, TRUTH DECAY, due in 2008) and previously unreleased material ("Open Ending," from the BELOW SUNSET sessions).
Transcending its origins as an electronic music group based out of Los Angeles, CA, Hypnogaja has evolved with each album, transforming into a full-fledged touring rock band that's performed hundreds of shows across North America (opening for major label artists such as Saliva, Shinedown, Cold, Godhead, 311 and others along the way).
Since its inception, one thing that hasn't changed for Hypnogaja is the band's embrace of technology - something that's allowed the group to thrive artistically and commercially in the ever-changing music industry. Taking note of the band's techno-savvy credo, APPLE.COM recently published an in-depth article (www.apple.com/pro/profiles/hypnogaja) detailing the role of Apple® technology and products in Hypnogaja's grass-routes success story.
Numerous television shows, motion pictures, video games and soundtracks have featured Hypnogaja's music and/or licensed on-screen use of the band's merchandise, including AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL (CW), CARRIE (NBC Movie Event), COLD CREEK MANOR (Touchstone), DEAD LIKE ME (Showtime), DIRT (F/X), FLATOUT: ULTIMATE CARNAGE (Warner Bros. Interactive), HEROES (NBC), LAS VEGAS (NBC), ONE LIFE TO LIVE (ABC), PUSHING DAISIES (ABC), ROSWELL (WB), SEX AND THE CITY (HBO), THE LOOKING GLASS WARS (Scholastic), VALENTINE (Warner Bros.), and many others. Additionally, Hypnogaja frontman Jason "ShyBoy" Arnold has recently written and recorded vocals for the end title of the upcoming new Capcom video game, THE DEVIL MAY CRY 4, now in production.

This is a rocking acoustic set.
author: BookmanHypnogaja follows up the stellar BELOW SUNSET album with ACOUSTIC SUNSET - LIVE AT THE LONGHOUSE, a live set that recasts the band's songs in an acoustic setting, revealing the intricately crafted workings that lie behind Hypnogaja's hard rocking exterior. Produced by acoustic legend Wendy Waldman, the album contains stellar renditions of the tracks, "Scorned," "Nothing Left To Give," "Misery," "Looking Glass" and the Eurythmics cover "Here Comes The Rain Again." A new studio bonus track, "I'm Not One Of You," closes out the CD. It's a powerful song about individuality and renders this a not-to-be-missed album. Check it out!

author: All Access Magazine- Susie SalvaHypnogaja, Hollywood based quartet, displays an interesting mix of classical and modern rock music. Their songs are moody and their compelling style of music offers a porthole into their lyrics, which explores the many facets of faltering relationships. Hypnogaja’s new CD, “Acoustic Sunset – Live at the Longhouse” on Union State/Longhouse Records, was produced by legendary singer/songwriter Wendy Waldman (Fishin In the Dark, Save the Best for Last) and recorded and mixed by veteran engineer Michael Boshears (Black Flag, Onigo Boingo). “Acoustic Sunset,” contains 12 stripped down performances recorded live in Encino, California, plus a brand new studio track, “I’m Not One of You.” The band is comprised of Jason Arnold (Shyboy) vocals, Mark Nubar Donikian, piano, keyboards, Jeeve, guitar, bass, Tim Groeschel, guitar, bass, Adrian Barnardo, drums and percussion. The songs while somewhat melancholy have interesting textures and haunting melodies. The band invites you into their arena with accessible lyrics and daring arrangements. “Misery,” the first track sounds like a lullaby (not to be confused with their song “Lullaby”), which explores the pain in a relationship where one partner is feeling miserable and can’t stand the sight of the other one. Hypnogaja does a searing rendition of the Eurythmics “Here Comes the Rain Again,” reminiscent of Marilyn Manson’s take on a Eurythmic song. The tune is a fine example of their modern rocks roots. It’s very engaging and draws you into their realm. “Looking Glass,” uses the analogy of Alice In Wonderland giving you the feeling that you yourself have fallen into the rabbit hole. It makes reference to the Cheshire cat and the Mad Hatter as well as Alice herself. It’s a fun track and appealing lyrically. “They Don’t Care,” delves into the situation where people say things that are hurtful but they just don’t care if they hurt your feelings. The song has nice guitar rhythms. “I’m Not One of You,” explores the notion of a couple that no longer see eye to eye with each other. It is beautiful musically and the guitars are interesting. This song reveals the sensitive side to their music. “Outside Looking In,” begins with a delightful piano intro which again looks at a failing relationship that seems to be a common thread throughout this disc. The song has lovely vocals. Hypnogaja takes their name from the hazy-dreamlike state wakefulness and sleep known in psychological circles as hypnagogia. Their music too has a dreamy quality to their songs with memorable melodies and intense lyrics. The band displays both modern hard rock with sweet acoustic melodies.
